Philips’ Hair-Raising Display - Literally!

Last we heard, Philips was working on that snazzy wireless power-transmission technology. Now, Philips is making more waves with a hair-raising display - literally. The company filed for a patent in which a “fabric display” is outlined for applications involving displays embedded in clothing.
The hair-raising display works by running an electrostatic charge through pixels - composed patches of colored fabrics - covered in hair fibers. When the hairs are uncharged, they lay flat and hide the underlying colors. An applied charge will cause the hairs to stand on end and reveal the color of the underlying fabric.
