HTC and Tmobile sponsor the 2007 gumball 3000The Gumball 3000. It’s a gruelling 3000 mile road rally from London to Athens and back, through Istanbul, to London. The rally has no first prize, there are no rules, and most of the autos are high-end exotics. It’s the ultimate combination of road racing, world travel, and of course, badass cars. Pepper that with a bit of less-than-legal driving and you can see why the Gumball 3000 has such an avid following (including State Police throughout Europe). And, that’s what makes the Gumball such a great marketing-base for T-mobile and, the newest sponsor, HTC.

Car freaks are just like gadget freaks so T-mobile and HTC are betting that the use of T-mobile MDA Compact III’s (HTC’s P3300, codenamed Artemis) will bring out the inner gadget freak in the rally’s fans. The rally drivers will all get to use the built-in ALK CoPilot Live 7 voice-controlled navigation system on the GPS-enabled smartphones for navigation, position tracking, and communication.

The Gumball 3000 marks HTC’s first major foray into sports sponsorship. Hey, HTC, how cool would it be to have your own NCAA championship bowl with your name on it? HTC Sugar Bowl – sounds cool.
