More mobile phones than citizens in the EU

With 478.4 million mobile phones in use, there are more mobile subscribers than citizens in the European Union. At present, mobile subscribers are at the 103% of the total population of the EU member states, up from 95% in 2005.

More mobile phones than citizens in the EUReport conducted by the European Commission suggest that penetration is highest in Luxembourg (171%), Italy (134%) and, surprisingly, Lithuania (133%). On the other hand people in France (82%), Malta (83%) and Slovakia (86%) are at the “bottom” of the list.

My two cents: I would love to have a powerful handset (i.e. smartphone) that is able to accept more than a single SIM card — something we used to have with the old Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Startac. This way I’m certain most of us who currently own two or more phones, would switch back to the single, dual-SIM device. (via: Textually)
