AT&T’s high-end handset sales dip ahead of iPhone

The upcoming iPhone release disturbs the “business as usual” at Cingular/AT&T (NYSE: T). According to investment research firm Piper Jaffray, carrier’s retail stores are experiencing a slow down in sales of their high-end handsets ahead of iPhone. Affected handsets include the recently launched Nokia N75, MOTO KRZR, Treo 750 and Samsung Blackjack.
“The demand for the iPhone will be high at launch and will continue to grow as Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) expands the product into international markets,” analyst Gene Munster wrote in a report summarizing Apple’s stellar March quarter results.
The way I see it, it’s still a speculation. People will most likely wait to see the initial reaction of the first buyers, after which they will decide to jump-in or pass the iPhone. It’s an expensive handset bundled with a pricey contract and that only seems reasonable. (via: AppleInsider)
