Silverlight for Windows Mobile - Look out Adobe Flash!
Posted by Will on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 at 3:52 pm under Developer, Windows Mobile, Announcements
Microsoft’s Silverlight format, an alternative to Adobe’s Flash format, has been opened up to .NET developers. Windows Mobile users can expect a slew of new Silverlight-based applications for their smartphones, in the near future. Flash is already renowned for it’s versatility and wide-spread adoption, so it remains to be seen if Silverlight can make any significant headway against an established format like Flash. What we do know is that the new .NET development options for Silverlight will potentially open the door for many more annoying banner ads, and the like.
Keep an eye out for Silverlight, folks. It’s gonna be fun to watch the two competing formats duke it out - we don’t know who’s gonna come out on top. We’re gonna keep to the sidelines on this one.
