Cingular / AT&T delays Blackjack’s Windows Mobile 6 upgrade until Q3
By Will Park on Monday, May 7th, 2007 at 3:20 PM PST In AT&T, Rumors, Samsung, Windows Mobile
While everyone else seems to be getting that oh-so-desirable Windows Mobile 6 upgrade, it looks like ATTingular Blackjack owners will be making with the sad face until Q3 of this year. PocketNow is saying that an “industry source” said that the Blackjack won’t be getting the WM6 upgrade until after June. What’s taking AT&T (NYSE: T) so darn long to get this WM6 upgrade out to users? We have no idea, but you can get still get some update-satisfaction with that WM5 ROM update from Samsung. Keep your hopes up, Blackjack owners, Q3 will roll around faster than you think (or you can just jump ship and grab an Apple iPhone in June).

Well, that last line is exactly why. AT&T is putting all their time into the damn iPhone launch. It’s not the kind of behavior that increases loyalty.
The worse thing I am so sick of seeing the TV ad where they say the lest drop-ed calls. My Ars they suck drop more calls than anybody else. Bottem line.
How do they have the least dropped calls?
Answer: They keep the connection active even if you can no longer hear or talk to the other party. You eventually hang up, which does not count as a dropped call.
Which is why they use the term “dropped calls” over “disconnected”
Since switching from Verizon to Cingular I have been using my redial button often!
I must have, on average, 5 dropped calls a day. Out of maybe 10 calls.
There should be a law that says that a company cannot lie or even generally make outragous and false claims about their product or service.
And I’m quite pissed that my brother has had WM6 on his tmobile for at least a month or so (it does seem nice). And I will wait and wait for something that should be on my phone by now – I guess I don’t pay AT&T enough $$$ to make providing me with reasonable servie and features worth their while…
There are over 70 MILLION people on the Cingular/at&t network. It’s based on the AVERAGE dropped calls in a certain time frame by the number of users on that network. Since Cingular/at&t has the LARGEST customer base their numbers are going to be lower. Anyone that has taken a math class could come up with that. When your dealing with T-Mobile (roughly 25 million) or Verizon (roughly 50 million), their numbers are going to show a larger number of dropped calls.
And with such a larger customer base (and growing by over 1.3 million a quarter), comes the problem of building/maintaining towers. Do you know it takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months to gain all permits needed to make a tower “active”, and only about a day to install it?
And with such a large customer base and the merger at&t has the LARGEST mobile to mobile network with over 112 MILLION users (including landlines that have been converted to allow for free mobile to mobile calls).
Such a bad network, switch. at&t has…
-The fastest internet (about to release a 1.5mb/sec)
-Largest Mobile 2 Mobile network
-Combined billing to reduce landline long distance
-First phone to offer iTunes (SLVR)
-iPhone
-ect,ect,ect…
If you don’t like em, switch.
Reply to Umm, STATISTICS says
You know what I am more interested in truth now a days.
As far as Itunes on the cellphone O wow why not come up with a media standard for working with playlists.
I am not impressed with there quality of service. I hope they do not run the new AT&T. The old AT&T cellphone service really stunk. Lets hope the new version of AT&T is much better than the old. But so far I would say no. AS far as how long the permits take. I have both worked as a network contractor installing Cellphone towers and the side of the carrier.
But to say that you have the fewest dropped calls is sad. And not true. It is not my fault that they over sell there service.
But I should get what I pay for.
Including Windows Mobile 6.
This just stinks… moving to Moto Q and Verizon after 9, yes 9, years and $15k of bills paid to AT&T Cingular in that time.
How do they have the least calls dropped? By having the least calls connected to begin with. I am out.
I have had all of the major cell service providers. AT&T is by far the best here in Arizona. Has not always been that way though. Seems like they are putting a lot more money in cell towers here to increase reception. Just hope they put out the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade soon. Getting tired of waiting for it.
where the hell is wm6. now they are coming out with a blackjack 2 with wm6. that’s bs. and a wtf. and they wonder why people use coreplayer and opera. if anyone has wm6. on blackjack i607 let me know.

There are thousands of unhappy BlackJack and Treo owners venting on the ATT forums. We have gotten ZERO support and information concerning the WM6 release. They are banning any poster linking to information on the leaked ROM’s. They have moved the threads concerning WM6 to members only thread. Any post put in the public area are immediately deleted or moved to the member only area. Any questions about the update to CSR are meet with we have no information at this time. Some CSR’s will say the update is coming soon. Do you have any other questions. Have a nice day. That soon has been 7 monthes now. They leaked ROM has over 60,000 downloads and is functional. It also has the ATT branding. Those that have installed it state it runs without any problems. ATT will not tell us what the hold up is. But customers are speculating its the release of the BlackJack 2. Which does nothing for us BlackJack owners with new 2 year contracts. While the BlackJack is an excellent phone. It has limitations of WM6. If you need to edit Office documents, you will need the features of WM6. ATT corp stores promised thousands of BlackJack owners we would get the update at the time we purchased this phone. Again 7 months later we are still waiting. Do a search of the forums and see for your self how ATT is handling this. Customer service is not being provided in this mater. Again I want to state the Blackjack with WM5 works fine. The network works great. I have no issue with the operation of the phone or the network. We have issues with being told we would be getting an update and then not getting it. Then being kept in the dark about it.
December 7th, so no WM6 fo Blackjack.
Where are the forums? We should just bombard them.
the forums are already bombarded lol
I have the leaked rom on my blackjack. So far I have only seen the fatal exception twice. The load time for apps is so much faster and the emial clients works flawlessly. I put in my Yahoo Id and it automatically got all the setting, WM5 cant do that for yahoo. The key layout doesnt matter to me since I always pushed the fn button for the other symbol anyway, It takes to long to just hold down the key. The battery also seems to last longer. I leave my phone charging at night and durring the day I make 2 or 3 calls and surf the web for an hour and and send about 50 txts also my automatic email. Then I get home and tether the phone for 8 hours. It starts dieing around 11. This is with the extended battery.
I havent got to use the Video Share service there is no 3G here.
