Nokia S40: No SIP support

By Stefan Constantinescu on Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 at 12:24 AM PST In Ideas and rants

With more and more smartphones being sold, why would anyone who knows anything about SIP even want an S40 device?

Dean Bubley does make a valid point however, future Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) devices will have this feature built in thanks to JSR 180.

S40 has SIP, many of the phones have push-to-talk, which uses SIP, and video sharing. I believe all of these phones also support JSR 180. The S40 phones with WLAN are using UMA, but I bet at some point, you’ll have real voip running on S40 over WLAN.
