Nokia Preps “Un-Plug” Alerts for Mobile Phones

Nokia, ever the green-minded cell phone manufacturer, wants to cut back on electrical consumption, save precious resources, and save the user some precious green. Like many consumer electronics that rely on an external battery charger, mobile phones will draw a trickle of electrical current even when fully charged. This “trickle” of electrical current can add up to enough electricity to power 85,000 homes, annually. Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s new initiative aims to alert mobile phones users when the phone is fully charged - sounding an audible alert and displaying the text, “Battery is full, please unplug the charger,” on the phone’s screen. Not only will unplugging the fully charged cell phone reduce electrical consumption (and consumer cost), but it will also reduce pollution - as part of partnership with the European Commission. We can expect this feature to first appear in the 1200, 1208, 1650 model phones.
