Sony Ericsson patents multi-layered display

One limitation of all mobile phones is the size of the screen. Handset makers can not make it too large, as it would result in bulky devices. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) hopes to solve this with its latest patent that adds a multi-layered display. With this kind of technology, Swedish-Japanese company can add more information on the screen by simply layering the information. I’m not sure how will this solve the mentioned problem, but it can certainly make smartphones work faster — basic phone functions like incoming calls, SMS, etc. could have a separate layer on the display, that doesn’t interfere with the active applications. Perhaps we’ll see something like this in the upcoming P1. Any thoughts? (via: uberphones)
