Washington State officially bans texting while driving

We’ve been expecting Washington’s Governor, Christine Gregoire, to make this ban official. As of last week, motorists caught tapping out a text message while piloting a moving vehicle will be slapped with a secondary violation. As we mentioned previously, the violation will only apply if the motorist has committed another moving violation. This must be more of a symbolic move by the Washington legislature – we can’t see many motorists actually being caught in the act of texting while speeding. You pretty much have to be typing out that text message right under the cop’s nose. If the text message is important enough to blatantly compose in front of the officer, it’s probably worth the $101 fine. Still, the new law might have some effect.
