Engadget, quick to post “insider” information, finds itself in some hot water today. The site posted an apparent Apple employee email stating that the iPhone and Leopard release would be delayed yet again (to October and January, respectively). It turns out that the email was a fake and the launch window still stands for both the iPhone and Leopard release. Engadget posted a retraction and correction just 20 minutes after their initial post. Still, the damage has already been done. Just minutes after Engadget posted the erroneous information, Apple stock plummeted 2.2%, as investors freaked out about another delay. Investors are none too pleased with Engadget’s goof as they saw their investments take a dive.
We hope someone at Engadget shorted some AAPL stock this morning.
