Again it’s Samsung who brings the new technologies to the mobile world. This time they’ve created the world’s thinnest (only 0.53 millimeters thick) 2.2″ active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AM-OLED) display. The new display promises to change the way phones and other devices with screens are built — it’s much lighter, brighter and more energy-efficient than current dominating LCD panels.

If everything goes well, the Korean company will start producing new displays within a few months. First customers are already on board, and include such companies as Korea’s Reigncom and Japan’s Kyocera.

Still, new technology brings new kinds of problems. According to some sources, 40% of panels produced are good enough to be sold and the rest are dumped — meaning the production is still very expensive. Hopefully, we’ll see this problem solved in the near future… (via: fareastgizmos)
