EQO Communications announced the launch of EQO Mobile, a new service that lets users make international calls on their mobile phones at local calling rates. Furthermore, similarly to Skype and other VoIP clients, EQO users can make free phone calls to other EQO users, as well as chat with their friends who use any of the popular IM clients (MSN, Yahoo, AIM, GoogleTalk, ICQ and Jabber).
EQO’s new service is powered by a small application that makes calling as easy as using as a standard phone address book. The application is free to download, installs itself automatically, and works on a wide array of supported devices. Initially, EQO Mobile will be available in the following 20 countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

“We developed the new EQO Mobile to satisfy a long unfulfilled need for consumers and business professionals — to make international mobile calling and messaging more affordable and convenient,” said EQO’s CEO Bill Tam. “We’ve made it extremely easy for consumers to get EQO Mobile, create a calling and messaging network of friends, and make
calls intuitively without having to worry about the costs.”
