China launches its own mobile TV standard

Why use some of the existing technologies when you can have the technology of your own. Obviously, T-DMB and DVB-H were not good enough for the Chinese authorities, as they’ve just approved and issued the China Digital Multimedia Broadcast (CDMB) mobile TV handset standard. The new standard is mainly drafted by CECT, the operating subsidiary of Qiao Xing Mobile, and is based on the China-approved Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) standard.
Next in the pipeline for the new mobile TV standard is submission to the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China as one of the candidates of the national standard for mobile TV handsets. A decision, which could mess-up handset makers’ plans who already invested heavily in either T-DMB or DVB-H, should be reached in a few months. (via: ChinaTechTimes)
