Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s ongoing licensing battle does little more than bore us, at this point. We’re pretty confident that neither company will take any drastic, industry-upheaving action against the other – they both have a lot invested in this whole shebang, and rely on each other quite heavily.
Both companies are still going at it tooth and nail – but mostly in the bickering, let’s-argue-in-court sort of way.
On Thursday (May 24), Nokia filed counter-suit against Qualcomm – seeking damages and an injunction against the US chipmaker. Nokia is firing back against the 11 patent suits filed against it, by Qualcomm, over the past 19 months. The Finnish phone manufacturer is claiming that Qualcomm is infringing on various GSM patents being used in GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets.
