In Blog Updates
I would love to blog more. Trust me I really want to, but I also need to work. I can not purchase or create more hours in my day and because of this I’m not slurping up 150+ RSS feeds to bring you guys the best of the best with added commentary at the ferocious pace I know I’m capable of.
I have an idea in the back of my mind, Project Finland, where I could begin blogging from the country that Nokia (NYSE: NOK) calls home. It would involve one really long flight, a studio apartment in Helsinki and a new laptop.
I’m just throwing this idea out there to see if anyone or any company is interested.
Am I a dreamer? You bet, dream big and follow you heart.
You will only find glory.
Update: Carol just sent me an email telling me that my post lacks substance, geekonimus posted a comment asking for logistical reasons why anyone would want to do this. I completely agree with the both of you. I just wanted to mention something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, post the idea and gauge responses.
I’ll do a complete write up with proposal, budgets, etc once I get home.

In Gaming
Moving from other country for studying in the UK can cause a culture shock. That was at least the case with Nipan Maniar, the guy who came from India to study at the University of Portsmouth in Britain. Nipan came up with an idea to develop a mobile game for people like him, to help them fit better in the new society.
In the game called C-Shock, the main character is an international student who has just arrived in the UK for the very first time. Read the full article »

In Devices, iPhone

In an interview with USA Today’s David Lieberman at the sixth USA TODAY CEO Forum, Steve Ballmer was asked about the upcoming iPhone. Commenting on the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s handset, Ballmer stated its doubts that iPhone will get any significant market share. According to Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s CEO, we could expect to see iPhone taking anywhere between 2% and 3% of the market. Ballmer added that Microsoft is working to get its mobile OS in many handsets, even quoting such large and at the moment still very far away figures as 60% to 80% of the smartphone market. Current figures from Canalys go the other way around, suggesting the Symbian OS is still a dominant force with its 70%+ market share. (via: MacDailyNews)

In Content
Wikipedia CAN be accessed with any XHTML mobile web browser, and there’s nothing new about it. However, so far we haven’t seen anyone optimizing Wikipedia’s content for mobile users. That just changed!
A Japanese web portal Goo Internet has repackaged the content of Wikipedia so it can be searched and viewed on cell phones. The service includes (no wonder) only documents from the Japanese-language version of Wikipedia. Read the full article »

In Devices, Motorola, Rumors, Three, Windows Mobile
X-Series from 3 subscribers are benefiting from the carrier’s unlimited plans. Still, at the moment they can only select Symbian-based handsets, Nokia N73 or Sony Ericsson W950i, as their device of choice. However, it seems that 3 is working to add some Windows Mobile love to its premium offering. According to MoDaCo, Hutchison (owner of the 3 networks) will launch Motorola Q 9h in the coming months. That’s a QWERTY equipped device added to the offering. Wondering will they add more Windows Mobile smartphones afterwards. What do you think?

In Devices, Sony Ericsson
It’s like Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) W880i doesn’t look stylish enough, the company called Amosu that customizes handsets, decided to add some gold on top of it. The new gold Sony Ericsson W880i seems perfect for wealthy people who just can’t live with the music playback capabilities of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold edition — after all, no other phone has such a cool looking interface as W880i does. Anyhow, to have this gold-plated Walkman handset, you’ll have to pour out the £569 (about $1135). A bargain, for making yourself look as Forbes list billionaire… (via: Engadget)

Mexens Technology announced the availability of Navizon on Blackberry (NSDQ: RIMM) devices. Users that are not familiar with Navizon should know that this software allows them to:

In Devices, NSeries, Nokia, Symbian
Despite the fact that Nokia N95 has started shipping just a few weeks ago, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) released the first update. This is kind a strange, and some users may think that the Finish handset maker initially released some kind of a beta version of the N95, when they have to updated it so soon. Anyhow, the firmware version 11.0.026 should fix some of the European fw’s that have the # shortcode profile changer and the shutter sound. (via: DarlaMack, AAS)

UPDATE: Symbian-Freak has posted a full change log of the latest firmware version for the N95.

In Announcements, Samsung, Technologies

The new 16Gb chip has a multi-level cell (MLC) structure and can facilitate capacity expansion by offering 16 gigabytes of memory in a single memory card. Furthermore, by applying the new process technology, Samsung has accelerated the chip’s read and write speeds by approximately 80% over current MLC data processing speeds.
