Apple iPhone Launch Day – the aftermath

Well, it’s the day after the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone launch day and we hope you enjoyed our live streaming webcast of the launch activities from the Apple Store at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. We were having some technical difficulties that took down our broadcast intermittently, and we were not able to upload videos to YouTube like we had anticipated. Regardless, we took plenty of video footage of the launch-day craziness and we have them for you now! Check our YouTube for our video coverage of the Apple iPhone launch. We’ve embedded some of those videos here.

Check out Into iPhone’s coverage of the launch day activities for FOX 11 News in Los Angeles! That’s right, we covered the launch for the press!

Quick recap:

Waiting through the night was fairly eventful – lots of “vagrants,” police, drinking, concerts, games, friendly banter, and kickball!

Waiting through the launch-day morning sucked. So sleepy. So bored.

Lack of sleep caught up with us through midday. Food helped a little. So did all the eye candy.

And then we got interviewed by the FOX 11 Morning News – with Amy Murphy!

The last few hours were excruciating! What does a mixture of exhaustion and eager anticipation feel like? A hangover supplemented by a shot of adrenaline – in other words, it felt like crap.

The closing of the Apple Store was quite exciting! The blacking out of the windows was a nice touch.

We got a boost of energy as the line started to inch forward – everybody was just packing closer together, we weren’t going anywhere (kind of like that car that inches forward at a red light – even though it’s still red).

Opening of the Apple Store was like celebrating New Years Eve – with countdown and all!

Entering the Apple Store made us feel like celebrities – since when do the employees applaude your entrance? Who cares – it felt great!

Sticker shock as we bought two iPhones.

I immediately sold my extra iPhone for $900 to some dude that couldn’t stand the line waiting.

Yoeau and I are still exhausted from the previous day’s activities. I just had 9 hours of sleep, but I still feel exhausted – but I kinda expected that.

iPhone mini-review will be posted today!

UPDATE!!
The mini-review has been posted over at Into iPhone! Head on over and check it out! We’ve also gone ahead and embedded the videos for you to enjoy hassle-free!

Now we have the leading provider of mobile email solutions Visto, announcing the corporate email functionality for the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone. Announcing doesn’t mean releasing, and the corporate users will have to wait for the late Q3 2007 when Visto will make launch its solution, to enable iPhone users to access Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino corporate messaging platforms.

Interested? You can pre-register today and get a free 60-day trial of the Visto Mobile service once available… Full release after the jump.

Don’t try this at home – iPhone taken apart

iPhone taken apart

Want to know the ingredients of Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s magic sauce? Sure you do! You can either take your iPhone apart or watch the pros. My suggestions is to follow the latter, as even the pros had some troubles. Anyway, check out iFixIt “iPhone Live Disassembly” gallery. As you can see for yourself, this guy doesn’t actually care much about his warranty. It’s a geek porn, and we love it! :)

LG Prada phone vs Apple iPhone

Check out these two beauties standing one next to the other. It’s hard to pick – Prada or Apple (NSDQ: AAPL). While the Prada phone is smaller and easier to carry around, iPhone packs more features. Both of them may lack 3G radios, but iPhone has built-in WiFi. Still, I wouldn’t mind owning both of these. :)

Voice coming to mobile games

By Dusan Belic on Saturday, June 30th, 2007 at 4:33 AM PST
In Gaming, Technologies

shoutingShouting at your opponent from a mobile phone sounds cool, doesn’t it? Apparently, that’s exactly what we can expect from mobile games in the not-that-distant future thanks to the technology called IP Multimedia Subsystem, or simply “IMS”. Basically, what this technology brings is some kind of peer-to-peer (P2P) functionality to the mobile gaming world. Just like in your IM client, you will be able to chat and talk with your friend on the other side of the world — all while playing a game with him. Furthermore, the IMS-powered games will be able to wake-up when one of your friends challenges you to a game, rather than relying on you being in the game all the time. Of course the best thing stays the shouting – playing AND talking with your opponent seems so close, yet we still have to wait for Vivendi to announce its first IMS-enabled version of “Navy Battle”…

TruphoneAnd… the wait is over! Version 3.0 of probably the single most-used SIP-based VoIP client for Nokia (NYSE: NOK) smartphones is out. Yes, I’m talking about Truphone, which in the latest version brings several improvements, including support for SMS over IP, better presence management, auto-logging to previously used WiFi hotspots, multi-SIM support. Also, as we previously posted, the new version works over 3G networks — the feature that is very handy for those of you on unlimited data plans. Video: Apple iPhone vs Nokia N95; Episode 6

By Stefan Constantinescu on Friday, June 29th, 2007 at 9:36 PM PST
In AT&T, Apple, Nokia, Symbian, iPhone OS

This is the last episode in the iPhone vs N95 series. I was supposed to post it at 18:00 CST, but honestly I was too busy helping a friend move into his new place. Today after doing my morning blog posts I spent the rest of the daylight hours disconnected from the web with a few good mates, moving heavy objects, grunting and drinking beer. I’ve had it up to here with this iPhone hype and I’m glad I sat out on what is probably Steve Job’s third best day of his life. Number one being the day he found out his cancer is curable, number two being the launch of the first Mac.

Will this phone change how other manufactures look at user interface? Absolutely! Was it worth reading the word iPhone in every other blog post I’ve read in the past week? Not at all. There is good marketing and then there is a vomit inducing point of saturation.

I hope you had fun watching them. Ricky and I sure had fun making them for you. Hell writing the scripts took almost 4 hours of our time.

Enough romancing about the past, here she is, episode number 6:
