CECT P168 – Another Apple iPhone Clone

Apple iPhone clone from CECT - the P168 iPhone ripoff

With the launch of the real Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone drawing near, buzz around the hot new device is growing louder and louder. In the hopes of riding the iPhone’s media-wake, Chinese manufacturer CECT has released the P168 iPhone clone CECT P168 Another Apple iPhone Clone. The phone copies the iPhone’s wallpaper, startup images (Mac OS), and even the metal-framed 3.5 inch touchscreen. But the P168 sports a set of six hardkeys for simple navigation, a 1.3MP camera (despite CECT’s attempt to turn a 1.3MP camera into a 2MP unit with the use of a simple sticker), 6-speaker “3D” surround sounds, dual SIM, and media playback. For the uninitiated, this clone could easily pass for a genuine iPhone, but we know better. With a newly updated launch rumor, we’ll just wait it out for the real Apple iPhone!

UPDATE: For those of you interested in getting one of these phones, I found a good number of them on sale at eBay CECT P168 Another Apple iPhone Clone.

I have a CECT P168. I live in Southern California. This is the best phone I have ever had. It works on the 3 carriers I tried it with: AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Iv’e had this phone for 5 weeks now with NO problems. The photos are as good as any other phone out there. The videos are, well from a cel phone! What do you want Hollywood quality? They are fine for whatever video you would take with a cel phone. I am waiting for 5 more to be delivered. Better get these before Apple does!

  2. Will Park says:

    Works with Verizon?!

  3. Ken Mackowiak says:

I should have said, Verizon World Phone. These phones have sim cards. I tried the phones sim card I use when I travel in the P168 and it works just fine. The world phone I have is from Verizon, A Samsung SCH-a790 Global Phone.

Hey guys been writing to all the editors in cnet handigo, zdnet and got this…Hello Edward,

    Thank you for the information.

I am pretty sure that this is a Java phone. Many of these are what we call “Feature” phones – because the features provided are pretty much what you are limited to.

There is a slight possibility that some of the Sony Ericsson or Nokia listed products may work.
Please consider that the developers of these products have not tested their software on your device.
If you want to continue to test your phone capabilities, please feel free to download any of the “Trial” version available on our site.
This link is a listing of some possibilities:
    http://www.handango.com/SoftwareCatalog.jsp?platformId=4&osId=942&siteId=1&N=4294917801

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    David

    Hey,
I am working on buying the cect p168 and it seems like a great buy. I have tmobile and use the sidekick currently. Do the features work the same? Can I text messege? Email? How is the speaker quality? Bluetooth quality?

Thanks very much and appreciate any help!

  6. maximillian says:

Hey John sorry it took so long to answer, was in the keys for te weekend. I have t-mobile slipped my sim and it worked fine. You have to go to them to get internet hooked up, ask for the teir 2 or teir 3 dept the know the phone and can walk you right through the hookup to the net. It has pretty much the same capabilites if not a little more than the sidekick. The pseaker are six and sound really great four on the front two on the back. Bluetooth is no problem for the phone either it has a great MP3 player the camera is ok nothing great but nothing bad, has video quality is ok. Has a micro sd card that comes with it. Also it has tha capability to hold 2 sim cards so if your one of the people that carry 2 phones, no more, one phone 2 sims let me know if you got any other questions…..

  7. onlyghosts says:

 I just placed an order for the cect p168 and is there anything thing that I should be worried about. Like working with my carrier (at&t), if it breaks is there a warranty to fix it, and other possibilities that I can’t currently think of.

  8. ty says:

i call t-mobile again i try to talk to 5 costomer sevice they don’t even know what phone is cect p168 or t02 not even list in there computer list how are they going to guide you through the wap set up so the wap have on this phone is dosen’t work at all remember ppl if you do not need internet then this phone ok if you need internet don’t even bother buying this phone

  9. Ken Mackowiak says:

I am writing and sending this from my CECT P168. I am using T-Mobile. You need to have a tier 2 or tier 3 tech setup the internet for you. They have the CECT P168 in thier system. PLEASE make sure you know what your talking about before posting. Other people rely on accurate information. T-Mobile customer service is not the place to set this phone up. IF TY would have read what maximillian wrote. the misleading post would not have been done.

My phone works great on the internet, I spent a Sunday morning going thru all the ip, port, home, ID, password, ect. and it worked, two days later all the data was posted on the CECT forum.

I just ordered this phone off ebay and can’t wait to get it. I was wondering how hard or easy is it to text with. Other similar phone I have is o2 xda neo, the keyboard that appears on the screen is impossible to text with without the stylus. Is it the case with the p168 as well? Or can you text easily using the fingers?
    Thanks

  12. maximillian says:

Kay its using a sytlus to text. no other way, sorry…

  13. maximillian says:

Hey LeonardJohn in setting up my mms using your
breakdown, (by the way thanks) When I get to step # 4 connection type http its asking for a proxy address?

  14. dubme says:

    yo max a million –

just ignore the request for the proxy server addresses… I followed the instructions to the T and it works fine.. remember this device runs on WAP and is a little slow to say the least.. This is very similar to setting up a macbook via bluetooth to get on the net with the blackberry pearl.

    To all other users

So far I have used the phone for a couple 4 – 5 hours… It is no iphone, but makes for a sort of close second.. Being a blackberry user as well. I can still text or email faster than any iphone or cect user, as well as watch movies and listen to music. The iphone will always be a sweeter phone but much like this cect it is like the days of the original bberry and is kinda large for many people.

  15. Candise says:

Its do-able, but very difficult to type with your fingers. The touch-keypad is pretty small, and that is the only major problem I have with this phone…

  16. Nadia says:

    Hey
I just purchased the CECT P168 off of ebay and I just had a few questions about it:

    1. Is it difficult to text?
    2. Is there a vibrate function for ringing?
    and..
    3. Have I just wasted my money? lol

    any help would much appreciated

  19. Ken Mackowiak says:

    Nadia,
    1. You get used to it. It’s not bad with the stylus.
    2. Yes
    3. No

    Hi everyone,

Ive just bought a cect p168 and its a great phone, but it came in chinese so can anyone help me change it to english?

    thanks

  22. onlyghosts says:

Dear Jay and in need of help, There web forum with most of the answers your looking for. Just go to http://cectp168.freeforums.org/login.php?redirect=viewforum.php&f=1&start=0
it will answer all your questions plus give more incite to the p168. I have a question for you guys I’m going to receive my phone sometime next week and I’m having my doubts. Yes it looks and acts like a iphone, but what’s the better deal. I paid 179. 00 plus 35.00 shipping. Then I just won a 4gb micro sd card for 61.00 on ebay. With iphone’s price drop to 300.00 is it still worth it? Or should I sell it all in bundle and use that money for a real iphone? That’s all I have. Oh also that website has a downloadable manual for English
which will, again, help everyone out. See ya and take care.

  23. in need of help! says:

Thanks onlyghost, i like the cect p168 very much it is a very goods phone, but it is not as good as the iphone but if you spent $300 for your cect p168 i think you should sell it and buy an oiginal iphone for only an extra $200. I found a really goods deal for my cect p168 i payed $170 including shipping which includes everthing and a 256mb sd card, and because i live in England the price halves as it is 2.0 dollers to 1.0 pounds so i only ended up paying £85!

    Thanks for your help!

  24. in need of help! says:

I can’t really find any subject about changing the language on cectp168.freeforums.org although i have posted comment on it, does anyone here have the phone and knows how to change the language to English if so can you please tell me.

    Thanks

  25. Unicity says:

    Hi Maximillion, Ken & Nadia.
You have had your phones for a while now. So I thought it would be best to ask you for advice. Have you had any problems? How’s the durability? Any drop accidents? How do you clean the screen? I am with T-mobile and I really wanted to purchase this phone, but I didn’t know if you can download things from T-zones like wallpapers, ringtones, games, Myalbum. Does the Internet show up on the cect p168 like the iphone? Where did you purchase your phones? Ebay? Thanks a lot. Have a great weekend!

  26. Unicity says:

Also…. which one do you guys like better the cect p168 or the new cect 599

  27. in need of help! says:

the cect p168 is better also i think you can go on tzone and download stuff, but if that doesnt work u can just blug it into the computer and drag and drop whatever u want like videos, pictures, mp3s etc and i think u can put games on to.

    hope that helps!

  28. maximillian says:

In need of help … Did you get your phone to english? From your main screen choose the little house. bottome left…then down four to the gear … Then choose top left icon the gears choose it…choose # 2 second down on list…then choose 3 third down on list… this is the launguage setup only one is in english click it and everything will be fine again…

  29. maximillian says:

 Unicity  to answer your questions…I’m in construction, past experience with any phone taught me to get a holder for it. I have dropped it on occasion the phone seems to shut itself off after being jared like dropping or banging it, not that I’ve ever banged it on purpose but have hit it against things and again it shuts off. Cleaning the screen I’ve used just a little soap and light water keeps it nice and fresh because its a touch screen by the end of the day its dirty so turn it off and lightly wipe it down… I’m with t-mobile have the internet setup don’t use tzones though, have found because of the screen being 240 x 320 I go to sites like http://www.mobilepark.eu/wallpapers/ and download the wallpapers using those demension. Now there are some sites where you can get them by using your phone’s internet they’ll walk you through it. The other way is of course to download them to your computer and then using your usb cable put them in your phone. You can do the same thing with ringtones. The phones limatation is not letting me add and other programs. I can’t seem to figure out the os. I’ve tried adding apple programs, windows, symbian, linux, redhat, pure java, and others nothing will go in. It seems like when they made it they made it with that in mind so you couldn’t mess up the original os on the phone. I got my phone through ebay, shipped it straight to me directly from china took 7 days. I hope this helps, its a very nice phone in many respects, I had others and this phones has many many strong points which would knock the others out of the park. The other hold back is learning to use the stylus, I’ve adapted and am pretty quick with it when texting, its nice to be able to choose capitals and symbols instead of having to improvise. The bad thing is I can’t do it while driving, problably shouldn’t do it while driving anyways but what the hell I use to text and drive with other phone. But that’s oh I’ve learned and adapted… I saw a response on here from a guy who claims he is still faster on his blackberry than on this phone, but blackbeery’s were to bulky and a real pain the the but my fat fingers didn’t type that well on it and t-mobile kicked my butt with extra charges because it was a blackberry. I guess to some have a status symbol is the way to go, I’m more of a functionality person. Well I hope this helps.

  30. sam says:

i really like the p168, i like it more then the 599 cause the video player is better.

  31. nate says:

maximillan..thank you alot for all you have typed..you are great!! i have ordered my phone and it will come soon and if i have any questions i will write you on here

  32. in need of help! says:

Thanks maximillian im glad there is people like you that help :-)
The only problem is that i have clicked every single option on there and it hasn’t changed, do i have to do anything after i click it and the little smiley face comes up?

    Thanks

  33. Unicity says:

THANKS MAXIMILLION! You are awesome! you answered every question for me in such detail. Thanks alot. I’m still torn between the 599 and the p168. I’m leaning towards the 599 because it doesn’t have the apple logo on back or on start up screen…. its just a cool phone. Again, many many thanks.

  34. Unicity says:

    Thanks Sam.

  35. maximillian says:

in need of help! it didn’t work? I’m suprised. did you click the one that said english? It should give the smiley face then say done… Everything should then be in english? Does it have the selecton in english saying english?

  36. maximillian says:

LeonardJohn by the by, you do need a proxy address and a proxy port for the mms to work…proxy address 216.155.165.050 proxy port 8080… to anyone wanting to set up the mms and send pics on their phone use the above configuration given by LeonardJohn then add this at the end when you choose http…Next they will invent a chip that is slipped under the skin of your scalp right above your ear, tap it to answer your phone tap it to turn off your phone, you won’t need to hols anything it will all be imbeded in the chip, it will send the visual to your eye…hehehehe…. Not to distant future anyone using a bluetooth knows the strange looks you get in public when your talking and no one can see your bluetooth….

  37. Ken says:

Thanks guys. I’ve been reading everybody every day. I order my phonme from China. I’ll probably get it this coming week. do anybody know if t-mobile charges for internet service on the p168?

  38. maximillian says:

Ken there is a charge for internet from t-mobile if you already have the service it will flip over. If you don’t have internet it will cost a nominal fee but doesn’t everything….

  39. Ken says:

do you know how much is that charge for the internet?
Do you also think that w/o internet the phone will work great as you want?

  40. Zee says:

  41. nate says:

zee i ordered mine for i thounk sourcegate website based in china…i bought it for 190 and that covered shipping with ups but the phone is 139 so the rest is shippin

MAXIMILION i have a question….is there any specific type of bluetooth earpiece have to buy for the p168 or will it work with any one of the pieces available?? i was looking at some pieces on ebay and i just didnt knwo which one to buy because they dont have the p168 listed on the list where the piece will work on…so which one should i buy??? thanx max!!

  43. Ken Mackowiak says:

Zee, I bought mine from showbox2008
From my purchase I would recomend him. You do need to check his feedback for other opinions. Here is the eBay page from my winning bid. I do not know how long this page will be available:

  44. in need of help! says:

No none of them says english i clicked every one and it didnt change!?

    please help

    thanks

  45. maximillian says:

in need of help does it seem like your stylus isn’t choosing the right ones? Are you sure your getting into the language setup? There should only be three choices?

  46. in need of help! says:

on mine there is 7 choices maybe im not on the right bit

  47. in need of help! says:

but the person i bought it off says it has these languages:

    English,German,French,Thailand,Abric,Vietnam,Chinese

which is seven but i have clicked on every one and it doesnt change

  48. maximillian says:

I wonder if you in a different part, the third down is language on my phone but the forth down is preffered input method which has 7 choices. your in the right area try choosing each one until you get one that says english. Mine only has three languages english and two others that I can’t decipher. But if your in the phone setup category there should be 14 choices one of which is language, from there my friend its hunt until you find the right one…Goodluck….

  49. maximillian says:

That didn’t sound like it was going to help let me try again. lets go from the main screen. At the bottom choose the little house all the way to the left. you should be in the phone’s enu. on the left will be icons one of which looks like a gear. choose it. Then there should be four icons gears, snowflakes, arrow on an orange background going in a circle and a old 3 1/4 floppy disk. Choose the gears… the next screen should give you 8 choices 1st is pen calibration, second is phone setup, choose the second one. this will take you to a window with 14 choices on my phone the third down is language. on your phone it may be different. Its got to be one of those 14. I would go into each one and see if any are the word english. If not choose the very bottom right on your phone that is back, it will take you back one. Again good luck my friend…

  50. Jake Howard says:

Question for maximillian: I bought a P168 and I really like it. But The phone will not let me do anything when i put the sim card in it, and will only allow me to make emergency calls. What could be my problem? I have AT&T service.
