CECT P168 – Another Apple iPhone Clone
By Will Park on Saturday, June 2nd, 2007 at 9:34 PM PST In Apple, Devices, iPhone, iPhone OS

With the launch of the real Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone drawing near, buzz around the hot new device is growing louder and louder. In the hopes of riding the iPhone’s media-wake, Chinese manufacturer CECT has released the P168 iPhone clone. The phone copies the iPhone’s wallpaper, startup images (Mac OS), and even the metal-framed 3.5 inch touchscreen. But the P168 sports a set of six hardkeys for simple navigation, a 1.3MP camera (despite CECT’s attempt to turn a 1.3MP camera into a 2MP unit with the use of a simple sticker), 6-speaker “3D” surround sounds, dual SIM, and media playback. For the uninitiated, this clone could easily pass for a genuine iPhone, but we know better. With a newly updated launch rumor, we’ll just wait it out for the real Apple iPhone!
UPDATE: For those of you interested in getting one of these phones, I found a good number of them on sale at eBay.

hi GUYS. Anyone know where I can purchase a P168 or a Cect 599 safely online? If you purchased on ebay can you list your ebay seller name. Thanks guys
i have a cect p168 and i am trying to change the network priority but it keeps saying it is unfinished. any adise on what to do?
Alright guys so I got my phone today and playing around with it. I read somewhere that the videos that can be played on them are 3gp and mp4 one;s. I had a movie lying around in the mp4 format for my Ipod, and I tried that and it says invalid file. So my questions what’s going on? Someone told me that I need to convert the files into regular mp4 format or something, and I am not too sure what that means.
Also wondering if you any of you know any websites or links or whatever where I can find some videos to put into the phone, that are of good quality. And also a software which i can use to convert my own videos and stuff into mp4 format.
@Unicity I purchased mine off ebay from a seller called ‘Neobya’, very highly recommended. She is great and very friendly. I told her I needed the phone in a hurry as I am leaving the country and she shipped express via FedEx on the 7th and I have it this morning. I am in Canada and she in China.
will this phone work with sprint pcs
Kay, MP4 is general purpose container format that can contain different types of video and audio streams. We need a list of exactly which types of video and audio streams the P168 can support. For example, it might support AVI. The P168 specs are not clear in this matter.
Rudy, This phone will not work with Sprint because they dont use GSM.
how do you use the viberate as a ring
also I dont get good service with this phone and when I go to network setup AT&T is second I want it first when I try to change it, it says unfinished what wrong with it
Will G… vibrate is set in user profile under ring alerts. It allows many settings, e.g. vibrate first then ring, just vibrate, etcc.
can anyone tell me wat’s the different between the p168 and cect 599…especially the features of the phone..how is the player for both phone???which one is better to own wit it…tq…
@ Hendry Go to you tube search p168 demo and search for cect phone demo there is a guy ( barbess.. I think) that gives very good video demos of each phone. I like the cect 599 because it looks like a cool phone the p168 looks like a apple knock off. But from what i’ve read here and on other sites both are really really good phones.
@ kay thanks for ebay seller name. hope you enjoy your phone!
Jake, I would have to wonder if you were putting the sim in the correct sim card slot? Not trying to be demeaning just know there are two slots and both should work. one is the primary though and woudl imaging it would have to be used first. Another possibility could be it isn’t recognizing the slot your in or the sim card itself. Maybe find someone else with a sim and see if it recognizes there’s? The third possiblity is it isn’t registering your phone comapny network. Remember this phone olny owrks on 900 1800 or 1900 is your phone comapny on those bands? I’m with t-mobile they not only carry those frequencies but know the phone well enough to walk me through a setup on the network and mms… I hope thid helps….
I see the question a bout video formats, took me a couple of tries to see the correct format. I have AVS Video converter which converter my dvd’s and or wmv’s and other video to mp4 they play beautifully…
Thanks Max. Could somebody post how to set up the internet config settings, like LeonardJohn did above for TMobile.
Jake if you have t-mobile just call them ask for teir 2 dept they can either walk you thru the setup or move you to teir 3 they have the stats on this specific model and know excatly what to do…
I HAVE THIS PHONE TOO
HELP
I cant get mms to work
it halts at 99%
i have all the settings he provided plus i setup the http ip address anyone got this working for tmobile.
and do i need to put in pass word and user for mms
Can we go on internet with a wifi connection?
maximillian, i have the cect p168 and at&t. im am trying change my network priority but i keeps saying that it is “unfinished”. am i doing something wrong and how can i fix this
jolan if you have t-mobile call them ask for their teir 2 department they can walk you through it very quickly they already have this phonew even though its unsupported and know how to make it work well…
Daniel I’m not sure what your trying to do to your network I’ve looked at mine and its set on automatic have not had a proble since then… I use t-obile and they are right on top of this phone and making it work on their system. I would have to believe at&t is the same way, you might find they can help. We have spoken on here a few times about setting up your mms and your sms on here look back you’ll see the breakdown given by LeonardJohn about halfway back up. I think the only thing he hadn’t added was your proxy address and proxy port, I listed those a few down… Good luck
Simon, this phone doesn’t have wifi, its a differnet frequency setup than this phone…
I know internet procedure for T-Mobile want to know it for AT&T, so I can help a friend.
I don’t know the setup for at&t sorry
hey guys how this thing work,i put the sim card and it does’t do anything?what shoud i do?
thks Unicity…i agree with u…cect 599 reli looks better than p168…
does this phone work with u.s. cellular?
Thanks Jake and Max.
I will try the AVS Video converter. I have some videos I downloaded for my ipod which are already in mp4 format. I could use them to convert and play them on the phone?
The BIG difference between the 599 and P168 is the frequency band. 599 is only DUAL band, while P168 is tri-band. So for all of you that live in the North America, you should forget the 599 cauz that will not work here. I agree it looks cooler, but I had to get the P168 being from Canada.
akress: Dont think so. Ask them directly if they support GSM. BTW, even if you have GSM in your area make sure it’s not just 850. AT & T where I live tells me that my service is primarly 1900, but there are some spots that still run on 850 which explains why I have no service at my residence, but 3 blocks away I have 3 bars!
hey maxmillion and every body else…for what is the difference between p168 and t02? and does the p168 take SDcard or T-flash?
in spanish we say when a thief robes a thief is granted with a 100 years of mercy, so Steve Jobs and Johnatan Ive can cry (droppong the 4 GB for the 8GB and price over 300 book hahaha)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=y7WGSQ7HBlM
Nate—- The P168 uses T-flash, also known as mico-SD.
Nate – I dont see any difference between T02 and P168. What we really need is a Quad-band P168. That would solve most issues people are having. Ah…..and add WiFi too!
Kay- I though as long as you cell phone company supported at least one of the GSM used by dual or tri band phones they would work any where? Am I wrong?
Can someone please help me find a resonable seller (trustworthy) for the Cect 599 or cect p168. Thanks.
I used Neobya off of ebay, great price shipped fast….
Thanks max, you always come through. lol Do you know if she sells cect 599 ?
She just responded to me yeah! she does sell cect 599 woo hoo!
cect 599 has camera of 1.3MP and p168 2MP. That makes difference
Yeah but according to reviews the 2mp is just a sticker the camera in the p168 is still a 1.3mp
Dak question how did you get your im’s to work?
i just got my cect p168 in the mail. i am haveing a lot of problems with it. The seller told me that i could use my at&t sim card with it and thats correct, i can. Everything popped up on my phone. What i am having trouble with is trying to get it to save to the network setting of at&t. can you guys help me? i have no signal at all. its an awesome phone and i hope i get to use it. I tried to call cingular/at&t but they wouldnt help me because it is not one of their phones. Is there anyone else i can call, or is there anything that i am suppose to be doing that i am not doing? thanks.
I have been looking into this phone lately. Can anyone tell me if this phone has an FM player or not? thank you
Chanel – Request tier 3 support from AT&T, they know about this phone. You can always try your local AT&T store, they might be of some help. Here is some general Config info, and migh help if you are familiar with GSM.
• AT&T MOBILE SETTINGS:
Access point (APN) Settings:
Access Point Name = Media.net

(This phone is not for novice users. It requires insight into operational usage of GSM networks and may require tier 3 support from your mobile phone service provider on how to configure the phone’s internet browser to work with your GSM network. The user manual does not cover this information because it is specific to T-Mobile and AT&T network service. If you are not prepared to spend several hours a day for a few days to learn the operational details of this sophisticated device, then this phone is not for you.)
Roy – No FM … thank God, we having enough problems using the core features.
Two question. Is there a difference between the cect iphone and the cect ifone?
And is this phone really worth it or am I just gonna run into a bunch of problems?
Rory – those 2 are the same. If your area has good GSM 900/1800/1900 coverage, then you should be fine. Getting internet, IM and SMS working will take time to learn. It is a beautiful phone, no doubt about that! The most common problem is that many areas rely on 850; that’s why the Apple iPhone is a Quad Band. So check with your phone service to see what kind of coverage is avail in your area.
Has anyone heard about the SONG A168. It looks almost exactly like the cect iphone but its screen is a little smaller but it has a 3.2 megapixel camera and it has an FM radio. I’m so torn on which phone to buy. Please help!!!
Rory, that screen is much smaller, 2.4” vs. 3.5″ and it doesnt have as good speakers as P168. Anyway, why drain your phone battery by listing to the FM radio?
Alrigh Jake, two more. Is this really two megapixel camera or is it 1.3 and I’m looking at one on ebay right now and it says CECT GSM TRI BAND CELL PHONE UNLOCKED(it is in Chinese although the phone language is set to english. Does this mean some of the shit is in chinese or when its set to english then everything is in english cause I don’t want this phone if one thing is in chinese.
Rory……….It’s 1.3, not as good as the SONG by a long shot. When set to english everything is in english. The Song has the same 850 limitation, and same internet setup problems as the P168.
oh yeah, does it use a mini sd card or a micro sd card
