The theory behind DoCoMo’s latest handset initiative is clear - if it’s good enough for video games, it’s good enough for mobile phones. The Japanese largest carrier is planning to incorporate gesture recognition technology into some of its handsets.

Shake, rock, and roll

Apparently, some of the devices from the FOMA 904i range will be upgraded with GestureTek’s technology, which uses phone’s camera to follow such movements as shake, rock, and roll. The combination of the three can be used for effective tracking of the user’s movements, and for that matter for the Nintendo Wii-like gaming experience.

NTT DoCoMo said that they will introduce first GestureTek-enabled devices in the next few weeks, along with the games that will support the technology. Next step could involve improved, move-based web surfing and map browsing. Ehh, Japan… (via: mobilemag)
