Vodafone Mobile Internet announced in Britain

It’s good to see a major carrier getting behind the whole mobile Internet idea. Yeah, they all do it in some sense, but then later we find out that they’ve disabled VoIP function on their handsets (this doesn’t excludes Vodafone (NYSE: VOD)). Is this a shift, or what?

  • Anyway, Vodafone has announced 3 important things:
  • New Vodafone Live! mobile portal that squeezes images for faster loading
  • Better access to popular web-based email accounts, with support for push-email
  • Much cheaper data chargers - £1 for up to 15MB for prepay customers, and £7.50 for 120MB per month for contract customers

Vodafone seems very bullish about its latest initiative and Nick Read Vodafone UK’s CEO said: “Vodafone Mobile Internet will revolutionise the way our customers use the Internet. They now have the freedom to explore a much wider world on an extensive range of handsets, experiencing the familiarity of the Internet they previously enjoyed via a computer.”
