AllAboutSymbian is reporting that the new 4GB SDHC microSD cards that are just hitting the market are compatible with the Nokia N95, as well as the Nokia E90 Communicator. They only go as far as confirming that the 4GB SDHC microSD cards from Sandisk work with the N95, but we have no reason to believe that cards from other manufacturers wouldn’t work.

Keep in mind that Nokia doesn’t officially support these new-fangled SDHC microSD cards, but who cares? If it works, it works – right? Forget that paltry 2GB limit that current microSD cards can provide, now you can play with the big boys. So, all you lucky Nokia N95 owners – go forth and turn that multimedia computer of yours into a multimedia powerhouse!

Nokia N95 is confirmed to support the new 4gb sdhc microsd cards even though Nokia does not support it officially

Oh, and let us know if any 4GB SDHC microSD cards from manufacturers other than Sandisk work on your N95, will ya?

I didn’t know there was something like an N90 Communicator. I know of the Nokia N90 Multimedia Computer and I know of the Nokia E90 Communicator. But an Nseries-Device with the Communicator form factor (and possibly it’s office capabilities) would be a dream come true for me.

But then again it might just be a typo…

  • Will Park

    Good eye, Andreas!
It was a typo – fixed now.

  • Slavyan Kanovsky from Bulgaria

Ok, now that all the typos are fixed, can we focus on the 4GB microSDHC cards?  Just kidding.
Nevertheless, any news on where can I buy such card, but with worldwide delivery because I live in a small Eastern Europe Country.

Hi, read the article regarding N95 supporting the 4GB SDHC card. I have recently bought such a card but unfortunately, my N95 will only see 4 MB. Is there something I need to do that will allow my pnone to properly see the 4GB Card?

  • DjErase

I bought a Transcend SDHC 4GB and it was see as 4GB.
I put 4Gb of MP3 on it to test it. All is on the card but the files that are after the 2GB is readable only on the Player. The Nokia File explorer cannot move them. When I try to select an mp3 as a ring tone, only the ones that are copied under the 2GB limit are readable. A bug in the latest ROM maybe …

I recently bought transcend MicroSd 4GB(HC) and I`m having big problems with this card….. I have latest firmware and nokia n95 (as far as I know) officially supports large capacity cards (I even saw posts on net supporting 16GB cards)
My phone recognizes the card, I can even take pictures and capture video clips and everything is working fine (about 4000 pics left with an empty card and video runs smoothly), the problem is installing apps, all apps installed in phone memory are working but if installed on card I just can`t start any of them and after first reboot they disappear (even from app manager)…. so I want to know if any of you have the same problem and is there any solution…
p.s. the card is Transcend and I tried it with freshly formated phone and card….

  • MAFLA

Hi! I have same problems. I bought Transcend Micro SD card 4GB SDHC class 6. I have same problems too with this card. I think it is about speed of the card, because this is a class 6 card, with writing/reading speed no lower than 6 Mbit/s. In the market you can buy a class 4 card, with writing/rading speed aprox. 4Mbit/s. I think our phones are not yet ready too read with this speed (class 6).

  • mmick

Format the card on FAT (FAT16) with 64k cluster (on Windows XP and Windows Vista non-SP1 you may have to run “cmd” for MSDOS prompt and manually format in FAT16)

  • mehmood

I too have bought have a kingston 4 gb sdhc card but freshly formatted card goes corrupt after few days. have tried different file system & cluster size variations but no sucess . i have emailed to nokia and they told me that upto 8gb is supported for n95. It is a class 4 card recognized as 4 gb with max capacity utilizable. I think that this might be a hardware incompatibility & we have to stick to 2 gigs hope a firmware update may fix it.

  • Ralphie

I’m having the same problem too with my Transcend Microsdhc 4GB when installing applications on my Nokia N95. I have the latest firmware version 30.0.015. After reboot all the applications disappear. I couldn’t even use the card reader to open the microsdhc. The supplier even changed the microsdhc to a new one. Still the same problem.

  • ione

I have a kingston microsdhc 4gb and it works just a couple of minutes then it goes corrupt, Nokia n95 will never work properly with 4gb card!

  • ione

I forgot to say I have the latest firmware version 30.0.015!

  • Ciprian

Same problem here with a Kingston microsdhc 4Gb.
After reboot, the applications and all the data on the card disappear.
I use now a sandisk 512 mb and it works fine.
    Strange…What can we do ?

  • liviu

i have the same prblem with a pqi micro sd hc card. The applications installed on card won’t start.Did anyone try the method mmick posted (formmat with fat16)?

  • David

  • Adrian

Same problem here… I bought a 4gb kingston sdhc card. the phone recognize it. i can even install applications… but after reboot all dissapear. i don’t know what to do. i have a 512 mb card and it works just fine. if somebody finds the answer… please email to me (lynx_ing@yahoo.com) i saw posts, that people use even 16 gb card, and it works fine, why we can’t?
Also i saw that they use the previos version of firmware 20….etc, probably that is the problem, the newer version. i have 30.0.015.

  • Sea

    same here…

    N95-3 Firmware 20.2.011

    Card Transcend Class 6 4gb.

After reboot all the applications disappear, or is corrupted :s

  • jasonkhoo87

same with me here.. bought 4gig SDHC kingston..
After a couple days, all application gone, all data corrupt.
I use scandisk to scan and full with error.. found.000 folder create..
I use pc to access and write data in the mmc, then, I use other pc to copy the data, it say that the data cannot be copy… Mean the memory card damaged already.. what make this happen? Is there the kingston not good or the phone? But, if we use original mmc, this problem will not occur.

  • bluerain

listen to this… I tried 2 4Gb class6 micro sdhc cards on my phone, PQI and a Trandscend, both seem to be corrupted after sometime of use. it displays a general system error when playing mp3 songs at times and lose all my pics and vids after some sort of data transfer to a pc, though I know theyre still on the card cuz of the memory in use, even my card reader does the same thing, again 1gig and less works fine. I guess n95 really is not ready for high memory

  • iohk852

exactly the same problem here in HK.
it must be a big bug from Nokia.
    i have N82 v31.0.016(latest), Adata 4GB SDHC.
Nokia said support, but actually not 100%,
especially the additional applications on the original Nokia 2gb card.
i tried many ways to solve, i wasted much time for this bug.
i am really disappointed with Nokia this time.
    even the hotline doesn’t help.

  • titel

    hi Misjah
I have exactly the same problem with the programs dissapearing or not working afer first reboot
I have the same card transcend 4gb micro sdhc on n95

  • Kiers

I have transcent 4GB class 6. I have about 2.5GB of mp3 m4a etc on the card. It was running fine…then one day…CORRUPTED. Now what? do i have to reformat? Idont even have a card reader. I have latest firmware N95.

Nokia, you give too many problems with your music manager. now even the phone. i paid $500 for this? sansa sony walkmans never have problems but nokia…oh my god!

  • bwdude

Is it a joke from nokia? Exactly fu…ng same problem. Put the avi player on phone – works fine, put the first film – fine, pit the second film, avi player doesen’t work. Scuki

  • peetmaster

Also for me… 4gb sdhc pqi card, works fo a day or two, then “corrupted” and not usable in phone. Works however fine in my notebook. Today, I had a minor data loss (photos), cad apeaars empty apart from folders like images, others, systems etc. Please send me a mail to teemo01@freemail.hu whenever you find something. The phone was way too expensive for this nonsense.

  • williamclw

been using the 4gb microsdhc by toshiba for 4months now..
no problems at all for my N95

  • kiers

hey WILLIAMCLW. is it true? what “class” (speed) is the toshiba sdhc card? class 6 is what i am using from transcend. i wish nokia would get it’s engineering correct. their ‘support online’ is USELESS.

  • John

Same problem here. Have tried two Lexar 4GB MicroSDHC. After a long time of use, all my files have been corrupted!
The phone lags a lot, System errors when playing MP3′s, pictures and videos does not exists, but the data still is in the memory because of memory use, in a file called with a random name (oju39m4t9q3.(i dont remember extension)) and when i go to View the details about this file, it would just view nothing. Format, reformat, just keeps the same problem >.<
