Nokia to its competitors in India: Bring it, you have no chance

India is Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s third largest sector in terms of volume. They obviously want to hold on to that and are doing it by dominating the retail space. Urpo Karjalainen, Head of Nokia’s Asia-Pacific business said:
“In India there are today about 93,000 retail outlets. It’s a huge amount, and our phones are being sold in every single one.”
When asked about competitors penetrating those 93k shops he replied:
“I’m not saying it cannot be done, but it needs quite a bit of investment.”
With a market share of 50% in a country that adds 6 million mobile phone users a month, one has to ask: how long can you be the top dog?
