Apple could debut iPhone 2.0 at Macworld 2008 in San Fransisco!

As if keeping track of all the Apple iPhone hoopla for this Friday weren’t enough. Now we’re hearing through the grapevine that the second generation iPhone may be debuted at the San Fransisco Macworld 2008 convention. Apple has awarded Quanta a manufacturing contract for 5 million iPhone units - of which a portion could be the iPhone 2.0. The Taiwanese phone manufacturer has been cultivating its working relationship wth Apple and gives us reason to believe they could have the next-gen iPhone out the doors by next year. Now, this is all speculation and rumor, but we’d love to see a 3G, GPS-enabled version of the iPhone show up at next year’s Macworld in San Fransisco (of course, with all the missing features Dusan mentioned).

Apple iPhone 2.0 could debut at Macworld 2008 in San Fransisco
Ron Garriques, CEO and President of Dell Global Consumer Group, commented on the iPhone $600 price tag: “If you can reset in the consumers’ minds that cell phones can be priced at $499 to $699, instead of the thinking that it is just $1, that’s good.” adding, as most people believe, “the marketing and hype surrounding iPhone is good…you know that they are working on iPhone2, iPhone3 and 4 versions.”

As with all speculation being cooked up in the rumor oven - season liberally with skepticism and let sit until ready.

[…] While it may not be the best cell phone the industry has seen, the Apple iPhone is one of the best PDAs.  Many of the web applications are easy to use and to access (although some have been disappointingly short of their hype).  There are still some glitches in the system, but Apple already has its eye on the next generation. apple is definitely workin on the Next generation iphones, but i realy dont think they r gonna release it next year coz they are wise enough to realise that if they do so they are not ganna meet their sales expectations of 10 million units of the first iphone.

There could b a major software update for the iphone at Macworld 2008 in San Fransisco.

    • Ronan says:

I hope there’s a new one soon. And then, another one after that. iPhone is forcing phones to get better, look better, feel better. I’ve got one. I love it. And, to everyone saying, “Ohhhh, you know there’s just going to be a better one coming.” I say, “I know. And when that happens, I’ll get it.”

    • Ben says:

I think it will only be a big software update for the iphone, it would be a bad business move on the part of apple to release a second iphone so soon. Do you remember how everyone got mad that the price was cut? Apple isn’t stupid enough to do that.

    • sean percival says:

Agree with Ben, maybe a software update for GPS? No new phone versions at this point. If there is, anyone want to buy a slightly used iphone?

The iPhone is a travelers dream, watching a movie, listening to music, or finishing-up that audiobook, it just can’t be beat. For convenience, ease of carry, and utility, the iPhone is my verified choice. On the downside, is the batter can’t be changed-out, and carrying around an external power supply makes for more junk to keep track of. I hope Apple realizes they are losing out by not providing this feature. They could sell various capacity batteries for premium prices along with charging acessories. Apple, I hope you are listening! I think if they would incorporate this feature on a future iPhone, they would sell 10 million in less than a year!

I think Apple will release a new iphone. They wana stay with the hype. If they wait too long the hype will die. But for the most part they going to add GPS and 3G.
