v01_s40_large.gifWicked wicked wicked good news out of Russia. Eldar’s English review of the Nokia 6500 Slide was posted recently and this little snippet of text is gold:

Later on they are releasing Feature Packs that we all know, which will include various improvements and enhancements to the basic functions, add support for different services and technologies, for example GPS-navigation. Listing quite obvious, but still undocumented add-ons, we can expect new menu views (similar to FP1-powered smartphones), and more importantly, multitasking for Java-applications. This ability for feature phones is very unique these days, being available only on Sony Ericsson products, the Finnish maker is to come up with it only at the beginning of 2008. The reason why it is still now around in Series 40 devices is Nokia’s commitment to promotion of the smartphones running on S60, where this feature is enabled by default.

The one reason S40 was inadequate for me has now been resolved, but is it too little too late? Next year Nokia is bound to have devices with higher than 320×240 resolution on the market. Why would I want S40 at that point?
