DataWind to release the new PocketSurfer

By Dusan Belic on Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 at 3:51 AM PST In Devices

During the 3GSM in Barcelona, I’ve spent some short time testing out the PocketSurfer 2. Basically, it’s a web-access device that loads everything from a server that squeezes things up and returns to the device. As far as I recall, the device had quite an ugly display with some awful refresh rate. Still, it worked quite fast over 2.5 GPRS network. In that sense, I could see its commercial success in the regions where 3G is not available…

Luckily for the potential buyers, DataWind (the developer of Pocket Surfer) decided to sweeten the deal, by at least making the device look better. As you can see from the image above, the new version will boast some kind of RAZR-like buttons and will come completely in black. We still don’t have any information about the changes in an actual hardware. Hopefully, upgrade – scheduled for July 12th – will involve much more than cosmetics.
