Skype on iPhone possible with SoonR

Skype on iPhone possible with SoonRWhile we still have to wait for the real Skype client to hit the iPhone, Tom Keating of TMC Labs succeeded to make Skype work on its iPhone using an AJAX-enabled application SoonR. This solution is also available on other mobile platforms, it just started gaining some additional momentum thanks to the iPhone.

Anyhow, the way it works is that the SoonR’s AJAX interface acts as a remote control for your computer where SoonR Talk app is installed along with Skype. Next, SoonR creates an unique view that fits the iPhone’s screen to make Skype interface looks as appealing as possible. The only problem is that it uses your SkypeOut credits to call your Skype contacts — i.e. technically this isn’t the standard Skype-to-Skype call and SoonR charges you for something that you would get for free from your desktop computer. Still, SkypeOut credits are far from expensive with unlimited Canada/US plans selling for only $30/year…
