Sony Ericsson is making some serious cash, Motorola is not and we will find out about Nokia in 3 weeks
By Stefan Constantinescu on Friday, July 13th, 2007 at 2:31 AM PST In Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson
Sony Ericsson is reporting that their second quarter profits increased 54% over last year’s to the tune of 220 million Euros, however their ASP (average selling price per handset) has reached an all time low of 124 Euros; a drop of 10 Euros from last quarter and 21 Euros from this time last year. With a plan to introduce lower cost models in the first quarter of 2008 I’m glad to see this Swedish Japanese company growing. Competition is great for the market because in the end we, the people who actually buy these ridiculous high end devices, win. One more thing to note: their market share rose to 9%, very close to breaking the double digit barrier.
Motorola on the other hand … the rats are leaving the sinking ship. They literally told investors to not expect any profit this year. Why Zander still has a job is beyond me. When Nokia (NYSE: NOK) was performing below expectations OPK didn’t take his yearly bonus, Zander on the other hand collected over 13 million dollars even though profits fell. What a great leader, don’t you think?
Last we have the friendly Finnish giant, they’re Q2 results get published on August 02. It will be interesting to see where their ASP is and how well the bleeding Enterprise division is doing. It is a sad sad shame E series devices are not getting the love they deserve. I was talking about this with Rafe from AAS last night and he agreed, they are doing some fine work. Hopefully the greater availability through channel providers here in the states will increase sales.
Update: Nokia’s Q2 results will be published on the 2nd of August, not the 19th. Thanks Daniel.

The Q2 results of Nokia should be released on 2nd August according to the Calendar of Nokia official website.
Hmmm at the same time the conference call is supposed to be on the 19th.
Thank you for the tip!
