Everyone and their sister wants an iPhone!

Well, almost everyone and their sister wants an iPhone. We’ve gone through our share of market surveys that tried to predict how strong the demand for the iPhone was going to be. They’re all moot at this point, but it’s no understatement to say that the iPhone was, and is, a tremendous success. With 500,000 iPhones sold in the first weekend, the initial market reaction was incredible. But, the most important and, undoubtedly most influential, aspect of the iPhone’s continued success is the actual iPhone user. Legions of iPhone adopters are showing off their brand-new toys to their friends and family (and likely to the occasional stranger) – wowing them with the coolness that is the iPhone. So, it should come as no surprise that one-third of the American population wants an iPhone.
Following the June 29 launch, Lightspeed Research conducted a survey on 39,000 Americans. The researchers found that an incredible 32% wanted an iPhone – with 8% looking to buy in the next three months, and 22% looking to buy “some time in the future.” Of course, as these new-fangled, hipster devices tend to go, the younger generation (younger than 45 years old) was more likely to want one – with 40% of 18-24 year olds, 36% of 25-34 year olds, and 33% of 35-44 year olds wanting their very own iPhone.
And, an astounding 90% of those surveyed had heard about the iPhone. With that kind of market awareness and buzz, the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone could very well turn out to be the hottest product launch ever!
