Tomi T Ahonen gathers some stats from Telephia which states that in Q12007 63.7% of all mobile phone users in the states use SMS actively; data from CTIA says there is a 93% increase in text message traffic in the 1H 2006 compared to 1H 2005.
Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is the first operator in the states to reach the “1 SMS sent per day per user” mark of adoption, yet the UK had this happen 4 years ago.
What are the stats looking like now? 5 text messages per day per subscrier in Ireland, 6 in the UK, 10 in South Korea and as many as 15 in the Philippines!

I remember being on a bus in Espoo about ten years ago in 1996- I was shocked to see an 80 year old woman texting away on her Nokia. This was only a few years after someone at Nokia sent the first SMS from a GSM phone- very quick to adopt new technology over there. Indeed- with subsequent trips to the land of Nokia over the years, I could easily see tons of SMSing going on- from young children to the older people texting away all day long.
15 sms per user, per day in the Philippines? Wow…
I send about 35 sms a day on average
