AT&T just announced a new service called AT&T Mobile Backup to allow its subscribers to store, update and access their contact information from the Web. Naturally, the idea is to eliminate the need to spend hours re-entering contacts into a new or replacement phone — or to delete all contacts remotely in the case a phone has been stolen or lost. In addition, the new service allows subscribers to import existing contacts from Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! and AOL through AT&T Mobile Backup website.

Using services like ZYB and Mobical.net do the exact same thing, but won’t cost the ridiculous $1.99 a month. Too bad most people aren’t willing to spend a little time to get those services configured on their phones.
