We’ve got word that the successor to the Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) HBH-DS970, the HBH-DS980, has just gotten the green-light from the FCC. The DS980 first popped onto our radar some time ago, so we’re excited to finally see this thing coming to The States.

As Dusan said, the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 is a “stylish, charcoal-colored accessory [that] weighs just 27 g, but promises to deliver wireless music and calls with superior sound performance, even in noisy environments. The HBH-DS980 supports Bluetooth 2.0 standard along with A2DP (stereo via Bluetooth). The new headset also comes with the digital noise cancellation/echo reduction technology to reduce background noise, battery life that should support up to 6 hours of continuous usage, and the multipoint function to enable pairing with more than a single device at the same time.”

We were expecting this thing to drop in Q3, so this FCC filing puts the newest SE headset on track for a timely launch.

Keep reading for the FCC’s semi-dissected pics.

Interesting to see what the Sony HBH-DS980 looks like inside. I like the fact that this Bluetooth headset is small.

I’m hoping this 980 will work better with my iphone 3g than my 970 version. The 970 cuts out pretty regularly and can’t skip to next song from dongle control, can only skip ahead by pulling out the phone. The 970 sound quality blows any earbud system ive tried from 99$ to 199$ sets wired. The wired sets ive tried have background noise and blurry base. RECAP: Hope 980’s keeps the great sound quality and all its features are completely compatible with the iphone 3g so i can skip to the next song when i want to.Thanks
