Well, it is a nice phone for the price. And it is one of the few Nextel phones that has Bluetooth but other then that, it really has only the most basic of features not including a camera. But still, a nice phone. :D

I have the new i335, and believe me after using an i355 for a couple years.....the i335 is not a joke.
This unit is fantastic with excellent call quality.
Really slim and light but also built to military specifications. The new style keypad is awesome with large easy to see numbers......lights up in luminescent red..extremely nice.

The ic605 and all IC series Nextels are great units. They use the CDMA technology for voice so the user gets top notch voice coverage and the Nextel iDEN system for all direct connect calls. Sprint/Nextel DC is not going anywhere for a long time as it is one of the best productivity tools ever designed.

It is so great to be able to quickly communicate a message or question to fellow Nextel users! I can't imagine going back to having to phone people to ask simple quick questions!

As for making fun of the ic602's style, that phone is not a toy. It is a real phone made to military specs for resistance to moisture, heat and extreme cold making it one of the best phones made.

A quick correction to above:

Tower reception IS required for direct connect service to work. I can "beep" or "chirp" any nextel user, nationwide. There is a unit to unit connection called "Direct Talk" that does not require tower service. IDEN has great coverage in most major metro areas and along Interstates. I can drive from Chicago to Indianapolis without losing a signal, for example.

I switched to AT&T and was satisfied with coverage in the Chicagoland area, but very much missed the direct connect feature. I work in public safety and almost all of us have nextel. It's like a second radio frequency for us.

acording to our customers as long as cell coverage gets better they will keep there direct connect. The direct connect network is not going anywhere for years to come. That comes from the FCC.Thats why Sprint is incorporating the two systems

You make a very good point. Nextel's DC feature is unrivaled. The question is, "Is Nextel's DC feature enough to keep it's subscriber base happy?" I personally never use the DC feature of my Nextel phone.

People fail to relize that Nextel is a Walkie-talkie service that also has cell service..Cell service will only work on Walkie-talkie towers. They dont have alot of towers because it is not neccessare for Direct connect to work..No one has ever said they have problems with D.C. service. They complain about cell coverage but they are paying the same price for cell min. that every company provides for close if not almost exact for just cell min. While the Nextel customers get both services for the same price. You cant have it both ways. It is better than any service on the market because its the only one that gives you two services for the price of one. Dont like it, dont use it and pay for just cell coverage which will still be Sprint service and your price is still the same
