In Apple
Seriously, there’s another class-action lawsuit on file in an Oakland, CA. federal court. This one was actually filed by the same lawyer that filed on behalf of Sydney Leung a couple weeks ago - he’s obviously trying to cover all his bases in the hopes that one of his cases will net him some cash (there should be a law against this sort of thing.). This time the complaints come from Zoltan Stiener and Ynez Stiener, and claim that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) and AT&T (NYSE: T) failed to inform consumers that the batter will require a $100 replacement (including the loaner iPhone fee) during its lifetime.
We’ll see if this case actually goes anywhere.

In AT&T, Devices, Pantech, Rumors, Windows Mobile
If you’re a fan of the Helio Ocean’s two-way sliding, keypad/QWERTY keyboard configuration, you’ll love this. Boy Genius reports that the Pantech (the same company that makes the Helio Ocean, by the way) is bringing their Pantech c810 to AT&T (NYSE: T) in Q4 of this year. The dual-sliding smartphone looks and works much like the Helio Ocean, but will be rocking a Windows Mobile 6.0 OS, 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD card slot and 3G(!). That means all you WinMo fans out there can get your dual-sliding fix on a wireless-broadband handset.

We’re excited for this dual-slider to hit AT&T. The Helio Ocean is a fantastic concept, only held back by it’s lack of power - the WM6 packin’, 3G-enabled Pantech c810 is just the ticket!

Look for this thing to drop in Q4 at an estimated price point of $249.99 with 2-year contract.

It looks like Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) if starting to finally come through on their promise of expanding the iPhone’s feature set through updates. Those last two updates via iTunes have been somewhat of a disappointment - they offered nothing in the way of new features. But, as Apple Insider reports, the New York Post got wind of Apple’s plans to launch their customized iPhone ringtone service.

If you and your Sprint (NYSE: S) PPC-6700 or Verizon (NYSE: VZ) XV6700 (HTC Apache) have been feeling a little left out in the cold while all those other handsets get that sought-after Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional upgrade, buck up little buddy! ppcgeeks forum user Helmi_c has finally finished cooking his own WM6 ROM for said handsets.
Helmi_c will be dropping the WinMo6.0 bomb on us tomorrow - and will be providing carrier-branded ROMs for your convenience. Props and kudos to Helmi_c!
We love it when the little guy takes matter into his own hands and fills a need that manufacturers and carriers have woefully neglected to address. Especially when it means a brand new OS for WinMo fans.
Read on for more pics of the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional ROM in action.

In AT&T, Announcements, Devices, Motorola
With Big Red and Sprint already having launched their own versions of the Motorola RAZR2 V9, it’s about time AT&T (NYSE: T) got with the program. The AT&T-branded MOTORAZR2 V9 is actually ahead of schedule (early September) and looks to be going for $299.99 (after a $450 web discount). Nope, that wasn’t a mistake. This little “mahogany” (we’d call it “purple” but hey, who are we to correct AT&T) RAZR2 V9 touts a retail, out-of-contract price tag of $750!

The MOTORAZR2 V9 is only available online to business premier customers, but should become available to all web-customers as well as in-store customers very soon. That $750 price tag had better be a joke. But, we have a sneaking suspicion that it’s entirely legit.

In iPhone
You know what they say. “If you’re not willing to brick your iPhone, don’t try the iPhone hardware unlocking hack.” Well, that’s more like something that we just said, but you get the picture.
Apparently, an enterprising hacker on the Hackint0sh forums wanted to give geohot’s hardware unlock hack a go on a locked iPhone. Just when he thought things were going smoothly (he got the antenna cover off and proceeded to pry off the battery cover), the iPhone just fried itself right into oblivion. A puff of smoke black smoke and a crapload of heat resulted in a partially dissected iPhone that is now good for little more than a prime example of what can go wrong when you don’t know what you’re doing around sensitive equipment.

From the forum:
“We were so happy, all the software part was done, so we started opening the iPhone. The antenna cover was a bit tricky but eventually it came off. Then we started to open the metal cover (after taking out the 3 screws) and PUFF, up it went in smoke, I think my collegue must have touched something. It literally went up in black smoke. It was so hot that when I tried to pick it up I burned my fingers. So, this is for sure the most difficult part of the whole process. I don’t know what he did, as I had just stepped out of the room to fetch something when I heard a scream…they got such a fright.”
The moral of this story? While the iPhone hardware unlocking method may be a provocative way to free yourself and your iPhone from AT&T (NYSE: T) hell, don’t try it unless you really know what you’re doing - and you’re willing to not only brick your iPhone, but fry it to a crisp as well. Wait for the software unlock! Seriously, be patient.
Still, we feel bad for the poor guy that “smoked” his iPhone.

Granted, there’s nothing new about a free web-based SMS text messaging service - there are plenty of similar websites out there. But Joopz breaks from the crowd by offering some incredible features and integration with your mobile phone.
Thanks to the good folks over at Joopz, you can send SMS text messages straight from your web browser. And, if you feel so inclined, you can even send mass text messages - giving you the option to reply to individual replies. Then, say you want to keep track of those text message convos on your mobile phone, just forward the text messages to your mobile phone and keep that conversation going while you’re on the go!
Head on over to Joopz.com to check out the new service. It’s a free service, so you really don’t have anything to lose - but if you plan on sending more than 50 messages per month, you’re going to need to pony up $2.95/month or $19.95/year for the premium service).

So, N93i is not the only Transformers Edition phone after all. Now, we have two other Nokia (NYSE: NOK) handsets joining the Transformers Edition series - the 5300 Black and the music-centric smartphone 5700. As you can see from the image above — and more to follow after the break — the sales package is spiced up with various Transformers phone collectibles, and I guess Transformers content like ringtones and wallpapers. By targeting younger audience, these two phones should better match the overall Transformers image — or at least, that’s my take.

In AT&T, Announcements, Devices, Sony Ericsson
Earlier this month, we saw Rogers Wireless in Canada adding the Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s shaky Walkman phone to its offering, and now AT&T (NYSE: T) is doing the same. I’m sure fans of the Swedish-Japanese handset maker and its products already know everything about the W580i. I’ll only repeat it packs an intuitive Walkman music player software, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, 2 MP camera which can take both photos and videos, and of course the Memory Stick Micro expansion slot.
If this sounds like your tune, prepare to pay anything from $79.99 with a two-year agreement to $269.99 without any contract…
