It’s a slow news day so far, hence we’re gonna bore you with numbers. According to ABI Research’s estimates handset manufacturers shipped 263.8 million units in the past quarter, year-over-year quarterly increase of 13%. Nokia (NYSE: NOK) strengthen its dominant position by adding an extra 1.4% to its market share reaching the total penetration of to 37.3%. At the same time, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) shrank from 17.1% to 13.1% from the Q1.
Among the winners are RIM and Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE), who saw their phones selling well outside of their primary markets – North America and Europe respectively. Korean handset manufacturers don’t hide their intentions to profit on the declining sales of the American manufacturer (Motorola) to penetrate the emerging markets like India, China and other countries in the Southeast Asia.
At the end, the Q2 2007 is spiced up with the entrance of a new player (Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)) whose iPhone is set to bring the new set of cards on the table. Mobile industry is as exciting as ever…
