Mobile-Review is down due to rabid Apple zealots

Mobile-Review is probably hands down one of my favorite websites for cellphone news and reviews. While some people may think several thousand words pieces are too long and that their English translations are a little bit crude, all I see is a group of Russian individuals who truly love mobile phones more than most of the American and other European sites out there on the internets.
The head of the site, Eldar Murtazin, is an awesome guy and after meeting him at the S60 Summit in Madrid (thank you Nokia (NYSE: NOK)) he became a great friend. Recently he wrote a piece about the iPhone that pissed a lot of people off. It pissed them off so much that they started a denial of service attack on his site. Check out the email Eldar just sent me:

After publishing article about iPhone positioning and some quotation on Russian part of Mobile-Review.com we received warnings from Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) fans that they could close site. Today, we are under DDOS attack and site is not available for readers. We try to filter traffic but too much computers send empty requests. I receive message from someone that this attack will show how iPhone is supreme above all other mobile phones. We try to solve this problem, but it takes some time.
If you could put some information about this on your site, it will be great. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Never think that Apple fans could be SO aggressive.
Eldar has someone else translate his articles so don’t even think of making a crack at his English, but anyway I want to touch on a little something called respect.
One of the writers on this blog (Will) has an iPhone. Personally I hate the damn thing, but whatever he chooses to use as his mobile has no effect on me, I respect his choice because he is an awesome guy. People often ask me why I don’t check out forum A or B or C, it is because people don’t respect each other. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) fans hate Nokia fans. Nokia fans think anything not made my Nokia is crap. Samsung folks have the same mindset as Nokia people. Honestly it is sickening.
My opinion of what the best mobile phone on the market is (Nokia E90) can be totally different from your opinion and that is totally cool. Technology is an amazing thing and we should all be able to enjoy whatever brand or device we feel like without it getting in the way of our behavior as decent human beings.
Just because you’re hiding behind an online alias doesn’t give you the right to act like a total fucktard; remember that.

wow, how lame. Way to make Apple fans look bad. I’m sure Apple wouldn’t appreciate this kind of poor sportsmanship.
Really is a shame but not unexpected really is it? I am not being a fanboi about anything but every Apple fan I have ever met has been so anal about the brand that they get so upset when you even attempt to question the Big Jobs.
So they didn’t like a review? fine comment on it and then either forget about it and enjoy your handset or just don’t bother with the site again? DDOS is so 1990’s I didn’t realise people still bothered with silly games like that.

Why are people so plain dumb? 
Imagine how many sites would have gone down if all the Nokia fans shut down the negative reviews of the N95?
I’ve never seen a group so sensitive to criticism. If the iPhone is so great, why does it need defending? Why do things like this happen? To prove a point? “Our iPhones suck, but we’ll make up for it by shutting down any website that says otherwise”?
That’s disgusting……….. just because they think it’s great, doesn’t mean that everyone else has to think it’s great
that wasn’t even his review, it was an overview of the iPhone, trying to decide what it actually was, turns out Apple fanboys don’t like it when their devices are labeled “fashionable” (because that’s the only thing Apple devices are….)

I thought Apple iPhone buyers or “supporters” were grown ups not just a bunch of spoiled kids that get upset if someone tells them that the only great thing about the uber-expensive phone they bought is the UI…

Well I love mobile-review also and just want to say the in-depth reviews are so useful, even if you disagree with the authors sometimes… like i did before i upgraded from my k750i to w880i… and im still happy i did it :¬) i didnt need to attack the site in anyway as i disagreed…
maybe its a point to note these mongoloids have too much time on their hands to go messing other peoples opinions or sites… o no .. we should all conform to 1 view… the APPLE view yes yes… we are assimilated from your DDOS!!! _/-0_

Apple fanboys are really irritating. They praise any product Steve Jobs announce, even though the product may not have that much of an improvement (iPod with brighter screen -_-”). They find Microsoft, Sony, Nokia, or any other company that is in a competition with Apple, supremely inferior. They bash these competing products and act as if they know the best.
My god, most Apple fanboys don’t know jack. They’re the most ignorant fools you can find on the internet. Also, they believe any product that comes out in pure white is a copy of Apple.

At the beginning of attack MR.com editor Eldar received an ICQ message which told, that problems with a site directly are connected with his position rather Apple iPhone. Is it distracting maneuver or the real reason of such scale attack, they do not know.
And they told this: “The huge request to all our readers to not fall to a level of vandals and to not label Apple products or their users. It is a trick of inadequate people which only proves, that our resource develops in a correct direction. Thanks, that all this time you wrote to us, sent SMS-messages, supported us in every possible way.”

This kind of attack doesn’t require much knowledge of Windows systems.
All you need is a bunch of angry fanboys with computers, an Internet connection and simple instructions from the head geek.
It can be done from the command line interface of most computers. Windows, Mac OS X and Linux has a command line interface capable of doing this.
Denial of Service (DOS) attacks are some of the simplest attacks there are. And when a bunch of angry fanboys do it, it’s a distributed attack.
What I’m saying could be wrong. Correct me if it is, someone.

I think you don’t understand what dos attack is.
According to Mr.Murtazin himself: “Several tens of thousands of computers across the globe are supporting the attack – these are “infected” terminals, or, as they call it, bot-nets”
It certainly could not be done by bunch of unskilled “angry fanboys”, because it is not like something required ten monkeys sitting in front of ten computers hitting something in “command-line terminal” every 2 seconds (and it is good, because otherwise internet would be dead flooded by thousands of such attacks every day).
It is well known that it is much easier to “infect” Windows machine because of many known vulnarabilities and bugs in the Windows system, leavin along the fact that 9 of 10 desktop computers on Earth is PC. Please read any publication about dos attacks and see it yourself.
Anyway, my point was that Mr.Murtazin is blaming Apple fans without any sufficient proof (do you really think angry anonymous icq message is proving something?)
P.S. Actually, today Mr.Murtazin published statement where it says “we regard this incident as an attempt to impose censorship in the Internet” – this guy is really trying to make hero of himself!

I think the iPhone and Apple fans have been made a scapegoat and smokescreen. Why should MR of all sites be targetted when MR is not the only site to give the iPhone their thumbs down?

Fergus: Well. Command line based DDoS attacks are cerainly possible. I did it together with a few other people who were pissed on a virus spreading bot on IRC.

mobile-review is not only a best web portal providing expert reviews, their reviews are a balanced one. I find them extremely useful.I love MAC, i own a MACBOOK. It doesn’t mean i am more fanatic about its product.
In developing countries, if a magazine brings to light about any offensive actions to the view of public, they get their Office building shattered on the very next day. Atleast, in your case people have not gone to that extent.
Hey Muzartin don’t loose hope, You can have a fresh beginning. After this struggle your site is getting more popular as well as a status that your reviews are Unbiased.
