T-Mobile’s 3G network and first 3G phone to launch next month!
By Stefan Constantinescu on Tuesday, August 14th, 2007 at 11:20 AM PST In Announcements, Samsung, T-Mobile

1700 MHz of pure UMTS goodness will be unleashed with the launch of the Samsung T639 on September 10th. The device is boring and does absolutely nothing impressive, it has a 1 megapixel camera. This announcement however signifies that T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) is finally entering the 3G game and AT&T (NYSE: T) is no longer the only GSM provider in the states offering mobile high speed access. We wish they could have decided to go with 2100 MHz and let American’s enjoy what Europe and Asia have been playing with for nearly half a decade, but that would be asking for too much.

Since T-Moby is so late into the game I wonder if they’ll jump straight into HSxPA or just the basic UMTS. Whatever it will be, i’m glad it’s finally getting closer..

Has anyone actually looked at the specs?
Samsung says its GPRS Class 10 only with no 1700 Mhz support:

I really wish they’d add the 2100mhz frequency for 3G. I bought a Samsung Omnia from France and love the phone, but I’ll always be stuck on the EDGE network as long as T-Mobile keeps their awkward band frequency of 1700mhz…
