Everybody wants a piece of the burgeoning mobile video market, and O2 is the newest wireless carrier to jump on the bandwagon. The German, UK, and Irish wireless carrier recently inked a deal with BBC Worldwide to distribute its mobile content through the O2 (NYSE: TEF) Active mobile portal. The deal will allow O2 to sell the BBC content in the form of ringtones, wallpapers, and video clips- with an initial offering that includes The Office, Little Britain, Doctor Who, I’m Alan Partridge, and League of Gentlemen.
Broadcaster-Carrier partnerships seem to be the best way to bring mobile phone users the video content that they want. Afterall, it’s the mainstream TV/video-content that most appeals to most users - aside from YouTube that is.
