Beware the Tmobile site is very misleading. Tampa is supposed to have 3g coverage according to Tmobile already, reality is there is no 3g around to be found. Read http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/oct/20/sp-googles-g1-takes-aim-at-iphone/news-scitech/
Other articles in the newspaper confirmed the fact, no 3G for Tampa, yet Tmob still claims so

I have the 6263 from T-Mobile and look forward to T-Mobile deploying 3G in the U.S. Known for its excellent customer and technical service, a T-Mobile 3G network will provide additional competition against AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

Regular 3G handsets wont work in the US because 2100 Mhz
uses 1900 Mhz for uplink. This conflicts with the 1900 GSM band.

Why are the US 3G networks at these crazy frequencies??? All around the globe 2100Mhz ist the default 3G band, only the US carriers are that fool... Any 3G handset would work in the US if they would use the default 3G band: 2100 Mhz.
