While more and more people are “going 3G” these days, we’re all wondering how will 4G look like. Yes, it will be much, much faster, but until 2008/2009 we don’t know which technology will stand at the core of new networks.

4GThe primary 4G technologies of the future are expected to be Ericsson-touted Long Term Evolution (LTE), Qualcomm’s Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB), and IEEE 802.16m WiMAX, which is primarily supported by Intel. No matter who wins the “4G race”, it is expected that the new networks be OFDMA-based, and that they support 100Mbps for wide area mobile applications.

Do I hear “when?” Patience my friend. Apparently, we should see the first 4G networks rolling out in the 2010-2012 timeframe. First we have to wait for the wider HSPA adoption…
