You may think this is not related to mobile phones, as in most cases they use microSD cards. However, bare in mind this is another barrier broken, hence we can expect to see the microSD versions to follow pretty soon. Also, some other mobile devices like the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet use SDHC memory cards, and there the new high-capacity cards could prove to be very useful.

New SDHC memory cards

Anyhow, Toshiba will be shipping the 32 GB SDHC memory cards starting from January for about $695. A couple of months earlier (October), the Japanese company will start selling the 16GB version for $348. Both cards will be capable of a write speed in excess of 6MB per second and usable with all devices compatible with the SDHC specification. Can’t wait to buy one for my Nokia N800! :)

How about that cute little 8GB micro sdhc card, any info on that one?

  • dusanb

Yeah, Toshiba also announced the 8GB microSD card, but I’ve intentionally missed that, as we’ve already seen such memory cards. Thanks for the comment though. :)

  • pseudofinn

Yes- but they’re not available yet, correct? I was wondering if we can expect them soon now…?

  • dusanb

Toshiba said the 8GB MicroSDHC cards will also (as 32GB SDHC) cards will start selling in January.

Um… could somebody please proofread this article? 700 bucks just for 32 GB of storage space? What, was this article written back in the 1970s? Or did I wake up and get magically transported to a mystical, wondrous future where minimum wage is 50 bucks an hour and everyone has a job and we’re no longer using oil fuel?

  • dusanb

Yeah, but that’s on a SD card, remember!

  • Brian

can i know some mobile phones which support this memory card?

  • Kaybo

Wow, that guy 3 comments above me is a fucking moron. I can’t believe he talked as if a 32 gig sd card is a thing of the past. What a loser. He obviously has no perception of the difference between a hard drive and a flash drive.
