Google GPhone confirmed to be manufactured by HTC

Here we go again with the GPhone rumors and speculation. Yesterday’s confirmation rumor basically validated what we had expected from the Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Phone – a low-cost, ad-supported phone with built-in GPS, running on a Linux kernel.
This time around, the rumor mill brings us another little tidbit about the mythical GPhone. Well, it’s more than a simple rumor – CrunchGear has reportedly gotten an inside scoop from an HTC employee. It looks like the Google GPhone will indeed be manufactured by everyone’s favorite smartphone manufacturer, HTC – just like we were speculating. Interestingly, there is also talk that Samsung will be making a GPhone of their own, leading us to believe that the GPhone platform will be more of a software-suite that will be loaded onto various hardware – but that’s pure speculation.
Count us in for at least one GPhone from HTC. We can’t resist a GPS phone with integrated support for Google Maps – at a $100 price point!
