Cellphone usage rising in Afghanistan

Afghanistan flagThings are slowly getting back to normal in the country devastated by the war. One indicator is that more and more people are using cellphones. According to USA Today, about 150,000 Afghans subscribe to cellphone service each month, with country’s communications minister even adding there’s “no end in sight” to the growth.

Nowadays, around 12% of Afghanistan’s 25 million people have cellphones and the coverage is generally available throughout the country’s 34 provinces. Furthermore, some of the poorest villagers are starting to use cellphones, which is a good thing. Hopefully, it won’t be long before we report about 3G networks roll-out in Afghanistan…
