This move shows weak position of Apple at the cellular mobile phones market. That’s why Apple stock drops 5%. Investors feel that Apple has problems with its iPhone and have to cut the price make it somehow popular (compare iPhone numbers with 18.7 million Symbian smartphones shipped in Q2 2007).

At the very least, Apple just made it’s most loyal customers out to be fools to their friends and family who we enthusiastically showed off Apple’s newest product to. Everyone’s going to be saying “damn, I heard you got ganked by Apple”.
