Palm Centro (Gandolf) spotted in the wild – actions shots from France!

Palm Centro Gandolf Palm OSWith Palm (NSDQ: PALM) having nixed their well-intentioned, if ill-conceived, Palm Foleo “mobile companion,” they’d better hope the Palm Centro can carry its fair share of the Palm’s smartphone business.

The next smartphone to come from Palm will be the Palm Centro (previously called the Gandolf) and now we have some live shots of this Palm OS-powered, BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Pearl-fighter.

PDAFrance has posted some shots of the new Palm Centro in action, and in comparison to the BlackBerry Pearl. Unfortunately for the Palm Centro, it’ll be rocking (we use that term loosely here) the worn-out Palm OS. There are not software refreshes, aside from the Palm phone application from the Palm Treo 680. Seriously, the Palm OS kill it for us – but we’d get this thing for our mothers. And…white?

It’s funny how one rumor said the “TREO” name would be abandoned in favor of the name “CENTRO”… seems that was wrong…
