China Unicom announces customized stock mobile phones

China also wants to get involved in mobilizing the financial industry, hack their CDMA carrier, China Unicom, launched 72 types of customized mobile phones that come with pre-installed stock and financial services software.

China UnicomAccording to Yu Yingtao - general manager of Liantong Huasheng, which is responsible for the carrier’s mobile phone outsourcing, China Unicom had signed a deal with most of the CDMA mobile phone makers - including Samsung, LG, Motorola (NYSE: MOT), TCL and Amoi.

See, Chinese carriers are following the latest trends. Now, bring on the 3G network China Unicom, will ya?

  1. Seems to be a good step by China Unicom, however its not clear from this post, what kind of stock software they are going to pre-install on the mobile phones? If they are allowing direct trading on mobile, if yes then it can be a revolution, but that means they need to tie-up with brokerage firms as well. Also I am not sure which company is really behind developing these financial softwares? Is that Liantong Huasheng?

    I have been reading that more and more mobile software companies are relying on having their applications pre-installed on mobile phones and sharing revenues with mobile operators and device manufacturers. So probably its proven that OTA (Over The Air) model is not that successful for selling and distributing softwares.
