HTC logo celebrating 10 years of operationOur little Windows Mobile smartphone manufacturer is growing up so fast. Our little HTC is turning 10 years old – and is celebrating their birthday with the grand opening of the new HTC global headquarters and R&D center. The new HTC HQ is located in Taoyuan, Taiwan and houses a number of state-of-the-art R&D labs – all chock-full of super-smart engineers and what-not working to keep HTC at the top of its game.

We remember when HTC was that little smartphone boutique manufacturer that only did ODM handsets for the likes of HP and i-mate – you’ve come a long way, baby. And, it’s not just us that’s happy for HTC, they’re getting some love from the entire industry:

“When the Chinese say ‘10′, it means perfection. After 10 years of innovation, HTC has earned the respect of its customers and partners alike. We will continue to expand the scope of collaboration with our partners to bring more innovative products to the market,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer of HTC.

“On behalf of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), I congratulate HTC on a very successful 10 years. Since the early beginnings of Windows Mobile, HTC has been a pivotal strategic partner with whom we have enjoyed incredible success,” said Pieter Knook, senior vice president, Mobile Communications Business of Microsoft Corp. “Together, we look forward to the next decade of innovation where we’ll continue to create devices that people cannot live without.”

“T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) strategically aligns itself with technology-leading partners to provide exceptional value and experience to its customers. I would like to express gratitude to Mr. Chou and the HTC team for their significant innovation and R&D contributions, as well as their enthusiasm to support our joint success story,” said Christopher Schlaeffer, Group Product and Innovation Officer of Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT).

Happy 10th birthday, HTC!

HTC Touch Cruise quality and customer service is the worst! Do not buy any of their products. I purchased a Touch Cruise in Hong Kong 8 months ago. I had only used the phone 5 months when the USB port went out with normal use. I have a Motorola A780 with the same USB port that still works flawlessly after three years of daily use. I was subjected to a “bait and switch” service center scheme at their Hong Kong Service center in Hong Kong located on Nathan Road. I brought my phone in on Monday, January 5th and told the tech the problems. The tech looked at the USB port and the coating on the screen and said that both would absolutely be covered under the warranty. Moreover, I told the tech that I needed to pick up my repaired phone buy Friday since I did not live in Hong Kong. I gave him my contact information. Three days later I called to find out if my phone was ready. I was informed that not only was my phone NOT repaired, but also that I would have to pay 400HKD to repair it!! How do you think I felt? How would you have felt? NO ONE contacted me before hand!! Now the ONLY way I could get my phone back was to pay the 400HKD ransom or tell them to keep my phone since I couldn’t have it repaired in time unless I consented to the costs.

I talked to numerous “supervisors” and they only repeated the same phrase over and over again “it is damage due to customer use.” What could I say? Their bait and switch service warranty had me at bay. So, I DEFINITELY will not buy HTC products again. I WILL tell everyone I know (all my corporate friends, those I blog with, etc,) NOT to purchase your defective USB cell phone devices and especially your “NOT WORTH THE PAPER THE WARRANTY IS WRITTEN ON” service warranty.

I will buy a quality HP or iPhone since I KNOW their customer service is excellent and that they stand behind their products.
