RIM’s got another BlackBerry outage on its hands- here we go again
Posted by Will on Friday, September 7th, 2007 at 1:13 pm under Verizon, Sprint, Cingular/AT&T, T-Mobile, Services, RIM, Announcements
Reports are starting to come in from all over the interwebs that Research In Motion (RIM) - makers of the BlackBerry and overlords of the BlackBerry BIS network - have another BlackBerry outage on their hands. We can just imagine the hoards of CrackBerry addicts that are starting to feel the wrenching effects of data withdrawal.
Thus far T-Mobile and AT&T have confirmed the outages on their end, but we have a feeling that Sprint and Verizon users are feeling the pinch as well. It’s not clear if this is a carrier-specific issue, but seeing as how different carriers are reporting the outage, we’re thinking RIM is behind this one.
Wait, we thought this wasn’t supposed to be able to happen again. If RIM is to blame for this outage, then we’ve got another server crash that was not only supposed to be impossible, but for the second time this year. Any BlackBerry users out there experiencing problems? Let us know.
UPDATE
It looks like our Canadian friends are experiencing some email outages as well. This is officially an international problem.

Was spotty in NYC and now nothing on Verizon. Two coworkers in Toronto have nothing on Verizon and TMobile.
September 7th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Wow, Toronto is having an outage as well?
It seems regional, seeing as how Chicago T-Mo is still up and running, but still widespread. What’s going on here?

NYC
I get sporadic emails on my bb 2-4 hours after i get them in Outlook. I work as an IT consultant. I’ve been getting calls from clients all day about this. Everyone has a similar issue.
I thought it was an AT&T thing (too many iPhones crashed my BB?) but after seeing all these posts, I know it’s RIM again. Twice in one summer… come on guys.
RIM = ConED
September 7th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I manage 15 BB’s at my company all out with T-Mobile, occasionally one or two will get through about 2 hours late. Happening with our Sprint,T-Mobile, Cingular and Verizon.
September 7th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I’m in Las Vegas, NV… no receiving of emails for a while now.
I can send emails from my blackberry though…
September 7th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
Another thing, spoke with CSR at T-Mobile and she said they dont expect it back up tonight, tomorrow morning at the earliest. Guess its time for a blackberry free dinner with the fam!

September 7th, 2007 at 4:03 pm

September 7th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Emails have been sporadic and very slow today. Just received one now I received on Outlook three hours ago. This is the Vancouver area on Rogers.
September 7th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
Our BlackBerry service has not worked since 11 AM PST in Vancouver. RIM better get their act together pronto. When you’re a one trick pony, you’d better perform flawlessly.
September 7th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
I’ve got an 8300 Curve on ATT here in Florida - last email was at 12:48pm Eastern US time.

September 7th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
AT&T customer - Blackberry Curve
I have not been able to receive messages since this morning. Apparently, I can send but not receive. I hope there will be some sort of discount on my data package as a result.
So annoying when no one is available to give an answer to the problem.
September 7th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
nothing since around noon. i guess being on hold with att is futile? thanks to sites like this … i found out what’s going on!
September 7th, 2007 at 6:13 pm
Spoke to Bell Mobility in Toronto. The outage is here too. No incoming emails for hours.
September 7th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
AT&T, Northern NJ. Sent several test emails from varying sources at 13:30 EDT. Still haven’t received them at 20:30 EDT. RIM should not claim resolution of their problem until they’ve delivered all of their messages.
September 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Chicago on T-Mobile. No email since 3pm central time. Still nothing at 9 PM now. Phone and text working though.
September 7th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Yep, my BB through Verizon here in NY has been out since 10 a.m. I called Verizon at 2:30 & 9:30 & they say it’s a nationwide outage, problem on RIM’s side (not carrier), and there’s no more info or ETA for fixing this nonsense. The iPhone is looking better & better… especially after the price drop earlier this week…
September 8th, 2007 at 9:43 am
I activated an 8830 w/ Sprint yesterday (09/07) and have the BIS. However, icons do not show up for email & web. Wait times for BB support are WELL over an hour.
September 8th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Posted from my BB8830. I have had no issues whatsoever here in SoCal (LA/OC) on Sprint.
September 9th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
My BB Curve hasn’t worked properly in over 4 days…that includes phone, texting, email, and internet…basically all i can do is play brickbreaker…wondering since i just started with At&T if I should just switch to an iphone since all other phones work except At&T!
September 9th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
I am in El Salvador and have the Curve using BIS. My service hasn’t been working properly since Friday. Our office here has six BB’s through Digicel. Hopefully it will be back up tomorrow.
September 10th, 2007 at 9:24 am
I’m in France, the service stopped working only today. Called my carrier, which informed me that there was a major RIM outage.
September 10th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

[…] out to be more than a regional/isolated outage, we’re looking at yet another RIM outage - the second outage in as many months. Oh, and this would make it strike three for RIM’s BlackBerry servers. […]
