Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s stylish non-Walkman slider will soon be available in purple — that’s “Ice Purple” actually. The eagle-eyed Maximus from JAMPBLOG spotted the device in this distinctive color on Sony Ericsson’s site. The specs remain the same, meaning it’s still a decent music phone with a solid camera and the shiny plastic cover. Looks cool and I’m certain some users will find it appealing…

i bought this phone a month now and nothing has happened to the keypad buttons or the screen, its perfectly fine..i even accidently dropped it and nothing went wrong.

hi, i heard hat it’s just the purple s500i that the keys don’t crack is this true? cos it sed all other ones did but not he purple on cos its more recent and the keypad is flatter than the older curved ones making them weaker in the midle

actually i heard that sonyericsson has made a version then they found out about the keypad thing then they remade another version with stronger keypads
so i think now all of the s500i phones that they r in the markets r from the new version ….

i got this fone in yellow color..ima say its really good…my number 2 button is broken, because the slide of my fone suddenly become hard to slide out and slide in to close…i thought maybe just coz of the coldenss but i goy really curious and took a peek inside, *actually i slide it open and took alook abocve the fone*..then i saw it has a thin rubber on the sides and it got stuck and it was moving out of place, and thats the reason why my button break, not because of too much texting or anything…i want to know whether they’ll gonna replace the rubber like thingy and the keypad….seriously i neeeeeeed to know…i dont wanna change my phone.:D

I just purchased this phone and expect it next week. I bought the black. Lets hope the key prob is fixed! I’ll be interested to see if I should have bought the purple or silver!I cant wait to get it!

Bought one today in purple and its lovely BUT….. I can’t get the back off!! Anybody else have this problem??
Well i have had my phone for half a year, and none of the buttons have cracked, but my friend got it the same time as me, and within 3 months 3 of the buttons cracked. They still work, it’s just that it’s got a crack down the middle of the button. Well i guess it depends on your phone. It took me a while to get the back off, but then i kept putting it on and off and now its really easy, i guess you have to get it a bit loose.
…ii really want this fone.

well i bought this fone bout 3months ago because i lovee the colour purple and it was alrite for a while till last thursday when the no.4 key broke but i guess its still a good fone apparently all the new models of this fone has harder keys so if anyone wants it go for it:) and aslong as you have insurance on your fone it will be fine:)
i have had this phone in every color that it comes in. i love the contrasted copper white one the best. its very classy looking. the guts in this phone are incredible. it has so many cool functiond that i havent seen in any other phone. but the outer casing of the phone is made of the cheapest and thinnest piece of plactic garbage i have ever seen and felt. the keypad does crack on every one of the colors. if it hasnt happened to you yet just remember that it will. no ifs, ands , or buts. people have sent their phones to sony and after being without a phone for 3 weeks, it only takes a week b4 the keys crack again. i took out my own key pad to change. doing this is easier then then trying to remove the battery cover. when i took out the keypad i could not beleive that it felt like a thin piece of paper in my hands. couldnt cost more then $.50 to make. dont get me wrong. i love my phone and think its beautiful. but if you dont want to be bothered with a very high maintnance phone, then please buy something more practical and less expensive. and that is my opinion of the sony ericsson s500i.
yeh i just got this phone in black a couple weeks ago and the 3 of the buttons have already cracked and it creaks alot… the back is aslso really hard to get off. but its still a pretty cool phone
mine creaks alot too. i surprized that you have trouble with the back on the black one. it the only s500i with a rubberized backing. its been 3 days and i still cant get the back off of mine. and you are right the phone is pretty cool. thats the only reason why i want to fix it. it just looks so cool. i just wish that sony would have made the outside as cool as the inside. i have the $450.00 prada and never had trouble with it and its built really well inside and out, but for some reason i go back to my cracked keyed and creaky housing s500i. shame on sony for doing this to us. i hope that in the near futire they make another phone that looks just as good but both inside and out.
i also wanted to let everyone that this phone also supports MP4’s. i downloaded 2 hour full movies and put them on the phone via M2 memory card. they come out beautiful and clear. and the sound is amazing. you dont even need the earphones. there is only one down side to this. there is no pause, FF, or RW. so if you cant watch the movie all the way thru and you have to stop it, when you push play again it goes back to the beggining of the movie.

this phone is great but yes the keys do crack. it doesnt matter if your rough on them or easy on them. sony told me that they came up with a better keypad but alot of people are saying that they sent their phone to sony up to 3 times and they are still cracking. i love the phone so i will just keep changing the keypads myself. as long as they keep selling them on ebay. its easier to change the keypad then it is to get the battery cover off.
And alsO ..
dOeS thiiS phOne (when on the walkman) can you change the song by holding down the walkman button and shaking it to change the song? Like the W580i dOeS .. ?
no… its not a shake phone and there in no walkman button. you have to use the navigation key like regular phones, but the phone is alot better looking then the walkman phone.

if you decide to get this phone and you are a texter in any way i strongly suggest you go to ebay and search for the s500i keypad. you will be dissapointed if your keypad breaks but if you buy one ahead of time you will be alright. i bought 2 of them just incase it happens again then i have a back up. so far the only place i could get a white keypad was from hong kong. but let me tell you the shipping was very fast. i live in the US and i had them in 6 days.

you drop in a new s500i keypad some crystal varnish.
one drop for key… and wait one week.

that sounds like an awsome idea. itso much better then waiting a month while your phone is at sony for repair and then having the same thing happen again. imgonna buy one more keypad and if it happens again im gonna try it. thanks for the info
