Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s stylish non-Walkman slider will soon be available in purple — that’s “Ice Purple” actually. The eagle-eyed Maximus from JAMPBLOG spotted the device in this distinctive color on Sony Ericsson’s site. The specs remain the same, meaning it’s still a decent music phone with a solid camera and the shiny plastic cover. Looks cool and I’m certain some users will find it appealing…

Hey to the portugal person, thanks, i’ll use that idea…i just bought a Purple S500i off of eBay & it will be here in a few days…but as i was reading about the buttons breaking i got a little bit woried..so thank you for the advice.
How come This Phone Doesnt have A radio like w580i and its dusent have bass i fink if i buy diss phonee tha keypad will break and im confused i dont noo wahh phone too buyy im a bit worried cuzz im tht type of person eye by the phone and regrett itt …Andd W580i is a brilliant phone same price as dis phone and u gett free speakers wiv it too wivv orange plus+ there is bass on w580i… so wahh phone is bestt too buy either

its your choice what phone you want to buy. personally i think that the white and orange w580i is ugly. the s500i is a beautiful classy looking phone. i have one in every color. my s500i has bass and the sound is un beleivable. the w580i has a walkman button and the s500i has a short cut button that goes right to your music. its the same thing. it just depends on aht you like. if your a jogger then you sould get the w580i for that health thing its got on it. im not a jogger so i would never use it any way. the phone are the same with slightly different functions. the 580 has rounded buttons on the out side and the 500 has squared buttons on the out side. the buttons on both phones do crack. it depends on what style you like. good luck with your choice.

i love my phone so much but i had another problem besides the key cracking. i recieved a text and after reading it the phone froze up. i couldnt shut it off so i pulled out the battery. after i replaced the battery the wont power up. all i get is the right side of the phone blinks red. i have never dropped the phone or let it get near water. there isnt even a scratch on it. i babied this phone. i did go to other forums and i found about 50 other people with the same problem. red blinking light and all. i just sent it to be fixed today. should know in about a week. i’ll leave the results of what was wrong and if it could even be fixed on this site.
get the phone unlocked on ebay. any color you want.
Can someone let me know how you replace the keypad.

first but the key pad on ebay. you dont need any tools. the little lip on the bottom patrt of the keypad has to come off. get ur finger nail under the right side right below the # sign. lift that side up and you will see that the left side will just snap right off. after you remove the plastic lip then remove the small rubber piece. then just peel up the key pad at any corner. put the new one in its place and press around the outsides so it sticks. replace the rubber piece and snap the plastic lip back on and your done. i hope this helped.
just wanted to keep everyone up to date. i mentioned that my phone froze so i shut it off and it wouldnt go back on. it just kept blinking red on the right side. i sent it out to have it fixed and they said that there was a short on the main circut board. they will not fix it because it cost more to fix then to just buy a new phone. i have found many other people with the same problem on different sites. i strongly suggest that if you buy this phone and you get it on ebay, that you get the square trade warranty. since i bought the warranty they are giving me the full price that i paid for the phone. so i ordered another one today because they are cheaper now then when i first bought it. i also asked them to send my keypad back because i just bought that one from hong kong and it feels stronger then the one that came with the phone. good luck everybody. it really is a cool phone, otherwise i wouldnt be going through all this trouble. im using my $400 Lg Prada and im going crazy. i need my sony s500i back
I bought this phone a week ago the floral addition its a really good fone but the only prop is the battery life i have 2 charge it every day!!!!!!! but other than that its a really good…. my friends sis has it n my cousin have it 2 there buttons have broken but mine is the new addition the buttons on the black and silver fall off but u can but them back on !!!!!!!!

i know this forum is about the s500i in purple and as everyone can see from up top i have owned several of them and it was the most awsome phone i ever had. i had to have it repaired because it froze and when i shut it off it never came back on, it just blinks red on the sides. i have found alot of people on the net with the same problem and they were loking for an answer to fix it. if this is you then here is the answer. a short in the main circut board. the phone had to be replaced. i got my new phone but it just doesnt feel like the old one. i did some looking around cause im a phone freak and i found the new SE W760. its a walkman with the shake feature and motion sensor gaming. it feels expensive and plays mp4’s. it has dual speakers on the front. everyone please check it out. it actually let me put my s500i back in the box (for now anyway) i also got my eye on SE F305 but it didnt come out yet. the gaming is like the WII system remote. if you look at the SE website you will see that the beautiful s500i doesnt have to break your heart. SE came out with even cooler stuff. i just dont think that any phone will be a pretty as the s500i.
i love this phone but the on and off button and the back keps on breaking off and i dont know what to do with it because i cant even turn it on !!!! its realy annoying. i realy need to get it fixted

I bought this phone about a month ago and the keys are fine i dont think they crack easily, the battery cover is hard to get off but nto a big problem, the big problem is the screen does break easily, my phone dropped when it vibrated off a work surface , it didnt fall from high up but now the screen is black
gutted , loved this phone, it still works but just cant see anything on the screen!
the keys DO CRACK!!!! they have the first and second generation S500i’s they did upgrade the keys. it depends on which generation was sold to you. dont be fooled that just because you used it for a month that they wont break. i hope they dont break for you but i had mine for several months and mine did crack and i didnt even notice it at first. my sons never had a problem and his phone is older then mine. as for your screen. get on ebay. they are pretty cheep. also go on google and look it up on how to replace the LCD screen. they give pics and step by step directions on how to change the screen. when my keys cracked i follow the directions and it was easier to change the keypad then it was to get that battery cover off. by the way. all you need is a pair of rubber gloves and the battery cover comes off real easy.

i really love this phone and i want it for mah birthday but i really want to no how the keys crack and the screen breaks

for starters: the keys crack because they are made of some hard type of plastic and they are very thin. the whole pad was made to be flexible so you can wiggle the keys from side to side. but the keys themselves are not flexible. so every time you put pressur on a thin hard surface there is a very good chance that it will crack. SE was sapossed to have changed the keys and made them more flexible. that is as long as you get one of the newer made phones. now as for the screen: if you read a little closer you will see that the screen got broken when the phone was dropped. i think theres a chance that any phone can break if it gets dropped. the more cool stuff that SE is putting into their phones, the cheaper they are making the rest of it to save money. the S500i has alot great features but the out side of the phone feels like a cheap piece of plastic and if you push any where on the phone it will actually squeek and make rubbing sounds. SE makes the kind of phones that we are all looking for but they just wont make them to last. i think they do this on purposs to atract a younger crowd so they will beg mom and dad to get it for them. i have been thru thousands of dollars worth of phones and alot of them are SE. i give all SE phones 3 to 6 months max before you need another one. sorry…. but their phones are not built to last. none of them.

the w58i is the same phone but was made for cingular/AT&T. so they just added a few more features. a friend of mine had it and 3 keys broke within 1 month. im not trying to turn you off to the phone. i have had several S500i’s my sons key pad never cracked and mine did. i ordered a new keypad off ebay and it took 30 seconds to change it. i dont know if it was the better made keypad or not but so far its ok. but i did buy 2 sets of keypads just in case. i dont think there are any problems with the screen. it was just dropped the right way and cracked. it could happen to any phone. i did have a problem where the phone froze up and i saw on other web sites that this happened to alot of people. after pulling out the battery and replacing it, the phone never went back on. it just blinked red on one side. i took it for repair and it wasnt fixable. it was a short in the main circut board but i did buy another one because the phone is hot looking. but its your choice. i love the way the phone looks so i keep it. as for Haifa’s question: anything is possible but i wouldnt think you could get 3 years out of this phone. i baby my phones and still have trouble. i just bought the W760i and this phone does everything. the outside is built alot tougher and the keypad is flat and rubbery. so its also tougher. but of course there are flaws with this phone too. the lights under the keypad are put in strange spots for some reason and the lights are uneven. i have to make a call in the dark in order to see the 9 and # key. i called sony and they told me thats just the way they make it and they dont know why. alot of SE’s keypad lights are uneven but the phone is ok. but there will always be something very classy looking about the S500i. its a very pretty phone so i keep it as my back up.
where can u get new key pads from ..i looked on ebayt and they didnt have purple .w.b.

the keypad for the purple phone are silver. they only come in 3 colors. silver for the purple and the yellow, white for the white phone and green for the black phone. you can use any color you want. the keypads are all the same no matter what color and it feels like a thin piece of papery plastic. you peel one off and stick on another.
i really dont know if the keys will crack because they heat up and cool down. they crack because they are hard, thin, and cheap. bottom line. SE already know that it wasd their mistake and they did correct it. but alot of the original phones are floating around out there and you cant be sure which one you gonna get.

&+ When You Charge It With It Not Slid Up It Feels Even More Thinner.
You May Of Realised That When You Have Finished Charging &+ You Touch The Keys They Seem To Be Quite Hot.
&+ When They Cool Down It Becomes Brittle &+ Eventually They Start To Crack By Them Self Even Without You Putting Preasure Onto Them.
i dont think that ur getting it. every cell phone in the world gets warm when being charged and when in use for a long time. but i have never in my life seen a phone where the keys crack. you should not have to leave your phone open so your keys wont crack. SE screwed up big time and made 2 of their phones even cheaper then all the rest. HOT
i just mentioned a few other problems with all their phones and it cut me off from writing and shortened my comment. sony makes cool features but they also make cheap crap. SE is not worth it anymore.

None Of Keys Have Cracked Whatsoever.
Although I Have Dropped For Atleast 5 Times.
Its Works Perfect Like It Did On The First Day I Bought It.

i just got the purple s500i a week ago. i am scared that the keys will break. do they only break on the old ones? is the charging thing true? i have no idea. its making me nervous. what to do?!?
dont get nervous. if your keys do crack you can buy them on ebay for about $8.00. and they are esier to cahnge then to get the battery cover off. you can also send irt to sony and they will fix it for free but it will take a while. i do suggest going on squaretrade.com and get their warranty. they are awsome. my s500i stopped working all together and within 4 days they gave me back the full amount that i paid for it and i got another one. my 9 year old has one and he drops it all the time and nothing ever goes wrong with it. i baby my phone and im on my third one. who would figure. mine sits in a box now cause i get bored. i went to the w760 and now im on w910(awsome) but i know that i will go back to the s500i because its just so georgeous.

I found a sony ericsson s500i recently. It’s green and its in pretty good condition. i think its a hit or miss with any phone. the phone is hot and if you like then just buy it. people are spending over a $1000.00 on the new IPHONE and i hear that some are having problems with it too. so go ahead and buy it. its such a beautiful and classy phone. how could you pass it up.

This phone is RUBBISH!!!
Ive had it for quite a few months now and most of my keypad is cracked and worn away.
And only jus today it dropped very lightly, but top part at the back has come off and wont close. Sno now its got all the wires and metal stuff hangin out. And i’ve spent over an hour tryin to fix it.
Dont buy it!!
